"Why? What do you mean, 'why?' because you're different, that's why. You know, you're like me. You want different things." -Clyde-
I went all day thinking about what my mother said the night prior. Had Josh really been interested in me for that long? I shook it off, and entered the auditorium for our last practice before the show tonight.
"My mom wants to know if you and your parents want to come over for dinner tonight, before the show" Josh smiled, putting his bag down beside mine.
"I can ask," I smiled, "but I'm not promising my dad will come. He never comes to anything of mine," I sighed, walking onto stage. Josh followed me sighing, "plus him and my dad aren't the best of friends.. maybe you, your mom and sister could still come?" he smiled. I nodded, Ashleigh would probably already be over there anyways.
After practice, Josh walked me home, when I walked inside I was met with my father in the kitchen.
"Still seeing that boy, I see?" he sighed, taking his tea off the stove.
"Dad, we are just friends, we lost track of time the other night. It really isn't that big of a deal," I said, opening the fridge.
"That play still tonight?" he asked, ignoring what I said.
I nodded, sitting down at the island as he poured his cup of tea. My mom walked into the kitchen and I smiled, "Karen wants us all to come over for dinner tonight before the show!"
"Does she? I would love that," my mom smiled, shuffling through the mail on the counter.
"Yeah, and then we can all go to the play together.." I looked at my dad, to see his reaction.
"I cleared my schedule tonight, so I will be able to go" he said, taking a sip of his tea. Something about him being there, made me feel like he actually cared for once and wasn't just a hawk when it came to guys.
I smiled, taking my bag upstairs and laid on my stomach on my bed, opening my script to go over my lines one last time. A few hours later, I had fallen asleep, I was woken up by a knock on my door. I open it to find Josh standing there, smiling.
"Your parents let me come up to get you, ready for dinner?" he said, reaching his hand out. I nodded and took his hand, walking downstairs.
"I thought you were just friends," my dad said, looking from our hands to me.
"Friends can't hold hands?" I giggled, looking over to Josh, he frowned a little when I said that, which made me feel bad. I did want more with him, but it was still so soon.
We got to the Kiszkas and Karen already had dinner on the table, my mother walked over, greeting her and helping her bring the last couple things to the table.
"Kelly," my dad sighed, putting his hand out.
"Roger," Kelly put his hand out and shook his. I was surprised they were being civil, but I was thankful.
Josh pulled my chair out for me, I smiled and sat down as he took a seat beside me. Emily sat beside me, with Sam on the other side of her. Jake was on the other side of Josh, Ashleigh sitting beside him and Ronnie sat beside Karen.
After dinner, we all got ready to go to the play. Everyone had walked out to the cars, beside Josh and I.
"Lex, I wanted to ask you something before we left." he said, adjusting his scarf.
"Yeah?" I asked, turning around to face him.
"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to, you know, be my girlfriend?" he blushed, smiling at the ground and then meeting my eyes.
