~~10 Years Later~~
My fingertips touched the top of the cold stone.
I lightly touched over the engraving, it didn't hurt anymore.I never visited my mother's gravestone, just stepping foot in the cemetery made me loose it. I could never look at my moms gravestone without feeling a rage towards the man who killed her.
Slowly, Carter and I reconnected with my mother. Tried to visit her every time we could.
There's no rage or fear anymore, it's peaceful.
The air is calmer, I feel connected to her.A couple of years ago, I told my family what happened during high school. They were devastated and angry. It took them a while, but they eventually got over it.
"Hi mom. Sorry I couldn't visit you in the past month, I've been very busy with work, they got me going crazy in the office, and I finally had a chance to visit. Dad's been getting better though. Sandra takes good care of him, he's really happy mom. We miss you. Oh guess what, Carter and Piper are expecting a baby. That's great news huh? Piper found out she was pregnant about three weeks ago. You have another grandchild on the way. I miss you mom. I wish you'd still be here, but I guess things happen for a reason. I love you, I'll visit very soon okay?" I kissed the top of the gravestone, and I stood up.
"Ready to go?" My husband asked.
"Yeah, let's go."
"You did great love." He kissed my forehead."It's--been a while since I talked to her." I mumbled as we made our way towards our car.
"you did great. Your dad invited us to a BBQ today. Do you want to go?" He asked.
"Yeah, let's go. I need to change though, these heels are killing me."
He laughed as he turned on the car.
------
I changed into a pair of shorts and a blouse and topped them off with flats.
The Roseflower weather is warm though, it's not even compared to the California weather.I rang the doorbell as Piper came out to greet us.
"Hello guys. How'd it go with your mom Charlie?" She asked as we entered.
"It went well actually. Where's my dad and Carter?"
"They're outside playing with the kids." She rolled her eyes.
"Hi honey." Sandra greeted me.
"Hi Sandy, how are you?""I'm doing great. How are you guys? How was your mother's visit?"
"It went extremely well."
"My wife is very strong, Sandra." My husband said as he reached out for my hand that had my ring on my finger.
The doorbell rang and Piper received the guests.
"Party's here!" Reece's obnoxious voice said.
"Shut up." Nancy mumbled.Their little twin girls came running in. They were identical.
"Aunt Charlie! Uncle Ryder!" They said hugging both of us.
"Hi girls." We greeted.
"How was your trip?" Reece asked."Easy peasy, except Charlie had to pee every five minutes." Ryder said and everyone laughed.
"I'm pregnant so a lot fluids are coming out me excuse you." I rolled my eyes in a teasing way.
I stepped outside to the porch and my dad greeted me.
