"Well, you're lucky. I don't see what you are complaining about"
"Snotlout...it's not that I don't think she's great, but I just don't know her well enough to marry her! At least by choice" Hiccup tried to explain to his cousin and friend.
He had met up with all his fellow dragon riders and their dragons early in the morning to tell them the news, and Snotlout, who had tried to get with a girl for years was undoubtedly a little jealous, but at least all of hiccup's other friends were a supportive bunch.
"I get it Hiccup," Fishlegs said. "Well I don't get it because I've never been in your specific situation but...I'm here for you"
"Thank you Fishlegs" Hiccup sighed.
Fishlegs might not fully understand but he tried to, and being there for him was all Hiccup truly needed."Yeah, who wants to be married anyway? Eww," Tuffnut gagged as he laid his head on top of his dragon's that seemed to imitate its rider by making a gagging sound of it's own.
"Well actually I do want to get married, but you know...not yet. I'm only 19 years old" Hiccup sighed and sensing his distress toothless purred and nuzzled up against him, trying to bring him comfort.
"Thanks buddy""And she doesn't even like dragons" Fishlegs sighed, recounting what Hiccup had already told them, but apparently Tuffnut hadn't listened when Hiccup revealed that fact.
"What!? She doesn't like dragons? What kind of sick person could not like dragons?! Off with her head!!" Tuffnut stood up, shouting and making dramatic gestures.
"Uh, you used to not like dragons?" Fishlegs was quick to point out.
"That is sooooo besides the point..." Tuffnut said with a straight face.
"Actually, I think it's right on point. If I could change all of your minds, I can probably change yours as well"
"You didn't change my mind. My mind changed on its own" Snotlout scoffed. They might be family but Snotlout had always held pride in being the best, so after hiccup suddenly rose to the be the best he had been a hit sour.
Everyone decided to ignore Snotlout's smart remark.
"Maybe? But it depends if she already resents you""Why would she resent you?"
"You're forcing her to marry you"
"I am not forcing her to marry me, Tuffnut!"
"Maybe not, but Tuffnut might have a point in what he's saying. She could harbor some resentment, maybe not because of you, but maybe just directed at you. You said it yourself, you don't want to get married, but not everyone is able to take it as well as you do Hiccup" Fishlegs explained to his friend, but he wasn't comfortable commenting further.
It didn't feel right for him to stick his nose C in his friend's marriage, or at least soon-to-be marriage.Hiccup thought back to where he had met Astrid at the harbor when she arrived.
She had been very quiet and unwilling to look anywhere but at the ground, much less look in the direction of her father.
Could she feel worse about this marriage than Hiccup had at first thought?
"Now I feel bad for not even thinking of that..."The marriage was in just one week and the young couple, if they could even be called that was being pushed around, getting ready for their big day.
It all went so fast, and of course, hiccup should have realized he wasn't the only one who thought that.Hiccup tabbed his metal leg on the hard stone ground a couple of times, wondering what he should do.
What was the right thing to do?"I need to go"
