Elsa's POV
I turned over the invitation in my hands. I couldn't go. I shouldn't. Stepmother would be furious. My stepsisters would never forgive me.
But I wanted to go so bad!
No. No no no no no. What would I wear anyway? My best dress was basically rags.
But he told me to come as I was...
Did I want to publicly humiliate myself? This ball was for the rich and powerful. All of them would be in majestic dresses.
A hand reached out of nowhere and snatched my invitation. I looked up in horror to see my four stepsisters. How had they snuck up on me?
"What's this?" Diamond asked.
"That's mine! Give it back!" I commanded, jumping to my feet. Diamond handed the paper to Emerald. Emerald read it quickly, then gasped.
"Oh my gosh. It's an invitation to the ball!" Emerald exclaimed. Instantly Sapphire grabbed the invitation.
"It is! It says that one invitation is valid for the whole family! That means we all get to go to the ball!" She squealed. Ruby grabbed the invitation.
"It looks authentic." She marveled.
"Quickly! Let's go tell mother!" Emerald said. Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire rushed out the door. Diamond followed them, and then paused at the door.
"You weren't actually considering going, were you?" She asked me. I didn't reply.
"It would ruin the family reputation of you were seen. And we can't let that happen." She said. She closed the door, and I heard a soft click. I ran forward and pounded on the wood.
"Wait! Don't do this! Please!" I begged.
"It's nothing personal darling. Oh wait, it is. I hope you enjoy the ball with the dirt and dust. At least you have a lot in common." Diamond said. There was a pause.
"Please Diamond. I'm begging you... don't do this." I said.
"Who gave you the invitation?" She suddenly asked.
"What?" I said.
"Who gave you the invitation?" She asked again. I was stuck. If I told her the truth, I would either get in trouble or she wouldn't believe me. If I didn't speak, who knew what would happen?
In the end, the choice was made for me. Before I could respond, Diamond spoke again.
"Who cares? The important thing is that I'm going to the ball. Who knows, Prince Jack might finally notice me!" Diamond said. I could hear the sound of her footsteps walking away. Great! What was I going to do now? I was stuck in here all alone. Well, I did have my kitten Olaf. But other than him I was all alone.
I waited until I heard stepmother and my stepsisters leave the house, and then I watched them ride away in a carriage.
I had to get out.
I had to warn Jack to stop seeing me. If he kept seeing me, it would only end in pain. For both of us. I scanned the room for something I could use to pick the lock.
Not finding anything, I my eyes settled on a desk chair. Maybe I could...
I grabbed the chair, picked it up, and threw it as hard as I could at the door. The chair shattered, leaving only a dent in the door. Drat. I thought that would work.
I looked around the room again. I walked over to the fireplace and tugged at the gates holding it closed. Rats. I wouldn't be escaping through there.
I grabbed the painting hanging above the fireplace. It had a metal frame. Perhaps it would be able to dent the door. Possibly even break it. I repeatedly hit the door with the metal frame, and the door only shuddered. Finally, it swung open. I breathlessly dropped the painting. All my efforts had softened the wood in the doorframe enough to be able to push the lock through. Well, there was more than one way to cook a turkey.
I quickly raided my sisters closets and makeup until I was dressed in a sparkling blue gown and my hair was clean and put in a beautiful braid. I made sure that I looked presentable, and then pulled on some silver shoes.
I had a ball to catch.
