Young Narcissa
"Y/N! Stop walking away!" Y/N continues walking up the winding stairs of the tower at Hogwarts, trying to escape from her best friend. There was no real reason for her runaway, she just needed a minute to herself, but Narcissa wanted to be with Y/N all the time, no matter what. "Please Y/N, just let me walk with you." she pleaded
"Narcissa! Just leave me be for 5 minutes. PLEASE!" Y/N couldn't tell but Narcissa was hurt by the yelling. She grew up in a house full of yelling, her parents were constantly fighting and she hated when people would yell at her. Y/N knew that but in the moment she didn't realise the effect of her tone. All she knew is that now Narcissa had stopped walking and she was finally alone. Now so was Narcissa, the difference between the two, was Narcissa was in the dorm the two shared, alone and crying, unsure of what she had done to Y/N. Why she wouldn't let her walk with her like they always do, and why she yelled at Narcissa as she did. Y/N was at the astronomy tower overlooking Hogwarts and its surroundings. Valuing the time she had by herself.
What Y/N also didn't know was the letter Narcissa had got from her parents today, explaining how much of a disappointment she was, and if she got any more bad grades sent home she would be disowned as 'bad grades aren't worthy of the black family'
About half an hour later Y/N made her way back to the Slytherin common room, she assumed Narcissa would be seated on the leather couch with a book in hand but she didn't find her there, she wasn't with the older Slytherins either, which was odd, she would never go to their shared dorm during the day and it was way too early for her to be at the great hall for dinner, which really only left their dorm. So Y/N made her way up to their dorm and found it dark. She walked in going to find the light. If she was thinking straight she would just use her wand. But she didn't, finding the light she heard quiet sniffles and sobs from the corner of the room. Once she turned the light on she saw Narcissa in the corned, with her head buried in her hands, and her usually neat hair, a mess.
Y/N quickly made her way over to comfort her best friend, at first Narcissa seemed surprised by this presence, not really noticing that someone had come into the room, but she soon melted into the hug, noticing the scent of Y/N. She knew it was Y/N, Narcissa's amortentia smelt like Y/N. She knew the scent like it was her favourite flower, being able to pick it out in a garden full of different flowers. Y/N was the first to pull away from the hug, wiping the tears from Narcissa's face "Why are you crying, darling?" Narcissa had a lot of built-up emotions, from family stress to school, the letter she had just received and her best friend not wanting to be around her just pushed her over the edge. She would never tell Y/N how she truly felt, or what her amortentia actually smells like, her two biggest fears were rejection, and not spending every day till she died with Y/N. Even if they went off and got married to other people she'd make sure to find a way to be with Y/N.
"I don't really want to talk about it right now," she whispered
"Okay, that's alright, let's get you to bed you're freezing" Y/N explained while helping her up. Narcissa snuggled into Y/N's side enjoying being this close to her. Once they got to the bed Y/N helped Narcissa sit there and get comfortable. She also made sure the blankets were in place to keep her warm. Even with all the blankets, Narcissa still felt cold. She needed something else, more specifically someone. Someone to make her heart feel warm, someone to make her feel safe, even when her conscience wasn't working because she was sleeping away. Y/N had started to walk away and Narcissa needed her, she needed her warmth, and she needed to feel the love that she couldn't get from anyone but Y/N even if the love they felt towards each other was different
"Y/N, please stay with me, don't walk away again" she quietly said, with the tears threatening to spill again. Y/N of course worked it out. She knew of Narcissa's past and how hard she tried to be the best she could for her family, and the yelling and walking away made her feel useless, from the one person she needed assurance from, the one person she told everything to. So Y/N turned and made her way to the bed sitting next to Narcissa Silently. Once she was comfortable Narcissa laid her head on Y/N's lap as Y/N stroked her hair softly, lulling her off to sleep. The silence between them wasn't uncomfortable. They had the love that they had for each other radiating off them. And besides, Narcissa was exhausted and if she was going to talk she needed rest first.
About two hours later Narcissa started stirring, indicating that she would soon awake, during her nap, Y/N had conjured a book to read, while passing time. The whole time she was silently playing with Narcissa's soft hair. "Narcissa" Y/N whispered softly, "Cissa, we have to get ready for dinner." She opened her eyes and looked at Y/N but looked away
"I'm not hungry, I don't want to eat" Y/N of course knew that she was hungry, she only had breakfast as they both missed lunch. But today was just a crappy day for Narcissa, she was reminded of the way her parents would treat her when she ate in front of them. The way they would shame her for what she ate, how much she ate, and how she ate. This caused many problems which only Y/N knew of, so she was not going to let her best friend starve.
"That's okay, but come to the hall, with me? we can share some strawberries!" Narcissa agreed to nod her head because that meant she could spend more time with Y/N so she slowly sat up. "Hang on we have 15 minutes before we have to be there, let me quickly braid your hair, you have bed hair" Narcissa lightly chuckled summoning a hairbrush for Y/N. They spent the next 10 minutes chatting about random things like best friends do and Y/N was done braiding Narcissa's hair. "Come on let's go to the Great hall now!" She stood from the bed grabbing her robes and waiting by the door for Narcissa
Once she was ready you both started walking, due to tiredness, however, Narcissa was much slower. "Y/N wait! you're too fast, can you hold my hands so you don't walk off?" Y/N stopped where she was and held out her hand for Narcissa to take. They started walking again and while they were walking Narcissa ended with her head on Y/N's shoulder still holding her hand. "Can you just hold my hand forever? Your hands are so warm on my cold hands" Narcissa said, without much thought.
"Of course Cissa." Y/N held her hand a little tighter. "As long as you're happy and safe, I'll hold your hand through it all, forever." She said bringing Narcissa's slightly smaller hand to her lips and giving it a quick kiss while still walking. Butterflies swarmed through Narcissa's stomach as they walked through the door to the great hall. Still holding on to each other Narcissa more because she was more scared that if she let go, Y/N would disappear. To say Narcissa couldn't live without Y/N was true. They had been through so much together, and Narcissa hopes she never has to live a day without Y/N by her side.
They made it to their seat at the Slytherin table as all the food appeared, Y/N grabbed fruit salad and a separate bowl of strawberries for the two to share. She placed both bowls in between them both in hopes Narcissa would eat more than just a few strawberries but she wouldn't force her to eat anything. Once Narcissa saw that Y/N had begun eating she had also, small bites but it was progress. Soon the bowls were empty, and eating together meant that they had almost equal amounts of the food.
Narcissa was tired, her head was on Y/N's shoulder she was almost asleep like that. That was until a group of older Slytherins, presumably, friends with one of her older sisters found them. "aw little cissa, looks like she's been crying again" they laughed. The shit day that Narcissa encountered meant she didn't have the energy to fight back. So her head went further into Y/N's neck and she was fighting the tears. "now she's hiding in her girlfriend, have you told her yet cissa?" the tears had actually now left her eyes "have you?"
"ALRIGHT, that's enough, just leave Narcissa alone!" Y/N grabbed her best friend and they made their way back to the Slytherin common room. Narcissa was so overwhelmed by the day she's had today that she was clinging onto Y/N like she was the last thing she had to hold on to. Which quite frankly was true, she wouldn't survive if she lost her best friend and she wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for everything she had done for her.
But as they say, dreams do not always come true. Especially the ones that we have at night. Y/N is always there with Narcissa... holding her hand forever. But really she is not. It is all in Narcissa's head. Y/N died when the two of them were in their second year. Now all Narcissa has left is her imagination and a memory that she will hold onto forever. Her amortentia still smelt like Y/N. Her soulmate will never change, not even when she has to marry the one and only Lucius Malfoy.
Making her way to her bed after the terrible day Narcissa whispered "Y/N you promised. You said You'd hold my hand forever... I guess that forever doesn't last after all"
