Your sweet little darling, Kathryn was currently sick, she lay in bed bundled in blankets with tissues surrounding her. You had only just got home from work, you came home early because she called you sounding very unwell and cried saying how she wanted you. You couldn't resist. She was your precious one, you would stop the world to make sure she was safe and happy. On the way home, you stopped and got her the necessities, cough medicine, tissues, cold and flu tablets, tea and soup. Quickly placing it all on the bench you ran to the bedroom and found her in bed still crying.
"Oh sweetheart," you said walking over to her. She looked up at you her eyes bloodshot from crying and cheeks red from tears. "Why didn't you call me earlier or tell me you didn't feel well this morning?" you asked softly as you kneeled beside the bed.
"I-I d-didn't want to d-disturb you," she whispered her voice raspy.
"Sweetheart, you will never be disturbing me, I could be in the most important meeting of my life and I'd still come to you," You explained. Her eyes welled with more tears.
"I-I'm s-sorry" she cried
"Sweetheart, you have no reason to be sorry," you said while feeling her forehead. "You have a fever, love. Have you had any cold and flu tablets today?" you asked.
"N-no t-too cold," she shivered. Your heart was breaking watching her feel so down, you would do anything to take the pain away.
"Okay. I will be right back," you said and she shook her head
"N-no d-don't leave" she cried. In your many years together you had of course seen Kathryn sick, but never quite as bad as this.
"I am just going to get you medicine to make you feel better, love. Then we can cuddle." You explained "All right?" she nodded into the pillow. You placed a quick kiss on her messy hair and made your way to the kitchen. You quickly boiled the kettle in case she wanted tea and got a glass of water. You took it on a tray along with the cough medicine and cold and flu tablets. You placed it on the bedside table and kneeled in the spot you were in before. "Can you sit up for me?" you asked while stroking her back.
"I'm s-so sore," she cried.
"I know my sweet, it's just your body trying to fight off the cold," you explained as she continued crying into the pillows. "I'll help you, it's just to take your medicine, then you can lay down again," you told her.
"o-okay," she agreed. She rolled onto her back so you could help her. Gently you lifted her upper body so she could sit up. As your cold hands touched her she whined softly.
"Sorry, love," you apologised. Once she was up you gave her two pills and the water. Slowly she took them and gave you back the water, as she took the cold and flu tablets you got the cough medicine ready. When she saw the liquid in the small cup she shook her head. "Sweetheart it will help your throat," you explained "I know it tastes bad but it will help," slowly she took to a small cup. She held it in her hands "Bottoms up." you said. She took it and pulled a sour face at the taste. "water?" you asked.
"p-please," she said while shivering you handed her the water again and watched as she took small sips. She handed it back and you placed it on the nightstand.
"Do you want or need anything else?" you asked, she shook her head, "I can get you tea or something to eat?" you asked again.
"No, I just w-want you." she cried as soon as she said it you got on the other side of the bed.
"Come here," you said holding your hands out for her. She usually would be in your arms as soon as you got into bed.
"I don't want to make you sick," she sniffled.
"Don't be silly love, I want to make sure you're okay," You explained "and I know you want cuddles, my little cuddle monster," you teased softly earning a small smile from her. She made her way to your arms crying out softly from the aches. Once she finally collapsed into my chest she let out a small cry. "I know, love. It's terrible. If I could take away the pain I would," you said softly, you stroked and played with her hair.
"I-I'm s-so-so c-cold" she shivered.
"I know, I'm sorry my little lovey, I can't get you anymore blankets it will make you worse," you explained. She cuddled herself further into you trying to find some warmth. "Try to have a little nap, love. I'll be right here when you wake up, perhaps you might feel better," you assured her.
"mkay," she mumbled.
"I love you, sweetheart," You told her
"I-I l-love you t-too," she said still shivering. You held her tightly in an attempt to keep her as warm as you could. She was trying to sleep but kept coughing and sneezing, apologising every time. Even when you told her it was fine as there was nothing she could do. She just felt awful and hated it. You tried everything to make her feel better but she just felt terrible. Though she was glad to be held by you. Even if she did still feel terrible she felt safe and secure being held by the one she loved most.
Soon the medication kicked in her fever dropped and she became sleepy. Her eyes were droopy as she tried to sleep but kept getting sudden pains or cold shivers. You kept lulling her off to sleep, stroking her head and kissing her temple. After almost an hour of the on and off sleeping she finally found the full comfort of sleep. You looked down taking in every inch of her face, there were light bags under her eyes from crying and the tiredness, her nose was turning a light shade of pink from all the blowing of her nose and there was a light blush on her cheeks from the fever. Even sick she was the most beautiful woman you had ever set eyes on.
You laid with her just playing with her hair and double checking she was okay every now and then.
After about 3 hours of sleep she began waking up again. You had been on your phone for a while but for the most part you just rested while making sure Kathryn was okay. Anytime she moved you made sure she was comfortable before relaxing yourself, and anytime she let out small cries or whimpers you made sure to stroke her hair in order to calm her down and stay asleep.
When her eyes fluttered open she looked up at you and smiled softly.
"Hey love, how are you feeling?" you asked. She moved a little so she was laying with her head rested on her arms which rested on your stomach, the rest of her body laid between your legs.
"I feel a little better." she said in a raspy voice, from the sleep but also the cold.
"Did you sleep well?" you asked.
"Yes, it was alright," she responded, you reached over to feel her forehead.
"Well the fever has dropped, that's good," you assured her. You both had yet to eat and as far as you knew she may not have ate at all today. "Do you want to eat something? I have soup that i can heat up for you, or I can get you some tea and biscuits?"
"Can I have some soup please?" she asked and what she asks for she shall receive. So with a debate about you getting up, even though she was the one who asked for soup, you finally made it to the kitchen and placed the soup on the stove to heat up for Kathryn and yourself. You also got a glass of water each and some bread and butter in case either of you wanted it. You carried it all on a tray. You found her once again snuggled into the blankets trying to find warmth since you weren't there with her "Finally," she whined. "I thought you left me here all alone," she pretended to be upset.
"Never, my little cuddle monster." you smiled at her and placed the tray onto the table. "Who knows what you'd do if you didn't have me," you said placing a few kisses over her face.
"I hope I never have to know," she said holding you in a hug.
"As long as I live you won't." you placed one last kiss on her lips. If you got sick, you didn't care. Kathryn was the only thing that mattered in this moment....
