Chapter Twelve
Gavin
Gavin stood across the street from where Chessa got out of a chauffeured car. Right behind her three burly men climbed out, each of them wearing a military uniform. He smirked, just as he suspected, spoiled princess. He'd gotten his driver license right after he turned seventeen. He bet the little princess didn't know how to drive at all. She was heavily guarded that was for sure. It was surprising she was even allowed out of her house.
He watched as she went inside a small mom and pop type restaurant, the guards disappearing inside with her. Looking both ways, he sauntered across the street, his dark sunglasses firmly in place. He quickly snatched off the sunglasses before he entered the restaurant. His hope was that Chessa would see him. That way he could reestablish the connection they once had.
He took a seat near where she sat though it was impossible to see her. The guards hovered over her making a human barrier between her and the rest of the customers in the restaurant. The barrier broke when a waitress came by with menus, and closed again. Gavin could imagine how uncomfortable she must have felt.
He could see it was a lost cause at the restaurant. Those guards were no joke. Clearly there was no chance of getting to her in the daylight. and stood up to leave. With that in mind he stood up, no use wasting his time there.
On his way out, a pretty young woman-a brown-passed him. She was followed closely by a well fit man in sunglasses and a tightly fitting shirt.
"Marciella!" A voice that sounded very much like Chessa's rose from the guarded table. But the voice was slightly deeper than what he remembered and had a sort of soft, raspy quality. Dare he say it was…sexy?
He hurried out, refusing to acknowledge that the sound of Chessa’s voice affected him. He told himself that what he was going to do would not hurt her. The kidnapping was just a means to get funds. If the Governor cooperated, she would be home, back to her princess worthy life within days of her kidnapping. No harm done.
Even so, the sound of her voice brought back memories of the girl he had tried so hard to forget for the last four years.
Chessa
Marciella looked at the guards with raised eyebrows. She stepped passed one and hugged Chessa.
"Don't mind them, Mar." Chessa was utterly embarrassed. She offered her a menu when she sat back down. "I'm so glad you could make it. Being back home is torture and I’m not exaggerating."
Marciella gave her a sympathetic look as she took the menu. She sat as well. "Why are they around?" She leaned in and whispered.
"Elliot's idea," Chessa rolled her eyes.
She leaned back. "Oh. Well, I 'm surprised my dad didn't think of military personnel becoming my personal guards. It was a miracle he allowed me to come here. Don't be fooled, I have a body guard too, it's just that he's more inconspicuous than…" Marciella's eyes traveled to Chessa's guards who stood stiff and unyielding.
Chessa gave a little groan, slightly throwing back her head. “It’s driving me crazy, Mar! You have no idea. The only privacy I get is when I'm in my room. Even then they're outside my door!" She looked up, "No offense, you guys. I know you're just doing your job, but…."
The men only nodded.
Just then the waitress came back with Chessa's coke and Marciella's ice tea.
Marciella smiled, "Chessa, you remembered!"
"Of course," Chessa laughed, "we've only been out of school a week."
The waitress smiled at the two ladies. "Did you find anything you liked yet?"
