"Where are we?" Dani asked with disgust. It was cold and clammy in the dark underground tunnels of Salem.
"The old Salem crypt. I've hunted mice down here for years," Thackery scampered along the upper level of the crypt while Dani, Max, Allison, and I stumbled along the stone path.
"Mice!" Dani's eyes widened.

Max was looking around at the creepy ambience the crypt was giving, and dead skeletons were perched towards the ceiling. "Ugh, don't look up, Dani."
"Don't worry, I won't."
"Where are we headed? My aunts will stop at nothing to find us." I could sense their presence like a circling shark in an ocean. You couldn't blame me for getting scared, because with the Sanderson Sisters, they were always two steps ahead.
"We need to find Mom and Dad," Max told us and Dani.
"They're not going to believe us." Dani told her brother.
"You're probably right, but we need to at least try. We have Binx and we have the book." Max seemed strangely optimistic.
"You better have a convincing plan," I warned him.

We reached the end of the crypt and Thackery scampered up the metal ladder to see what was up there.
"Come on up," the cat pushed his way through the man hole and Max pushed up the covering. I wasn't expecting the tragedy that would happen next.
"Binx look out!" Max shouted, but we heard a sickening crunch.
"Binx no!" Dani cried.

"Thackery!" I could feel tears brewing. My heart ached with three-hundred years worth of pain. We scrambled to the top of the ladder and we were on a long dark rode on the other side of town.

Thackery's cat body lay flat on the pavement with tire marks on his side. My heart sank and I began to weep. "Couldn't fate have allowed us to be happy?"

Dani began to cry too and Allison hugged her to give her comfort.

"This is all my fault," Max said glumly while hugging his sister. "Max, it's not your fault."

Just then, Thackery's body began expanding and he instantly sat up, shaking his head, "I hate it when that happens."

We just stared at him.

"I told you I can't die," he told us. "Dani, are you okay?" he asked genuinely. "Yeah," she wiped her tears and smiled.

"Destiny, are you?" the love of my life looked at me with concern. "Yes, but you've got to quit scaring me like that," I said with a playful grin.

This made our group laugh and we continued on our quest to stop my aunts from wrecking havoc on Salem.

This would require venturing into the Halloween party at City Hall.
