We had assumed our normal spots in the Impala. Dean was driving, Sam was in the passenger seat and I was in the back. I had texted Brigham the address of the motel so he could pick up my car and we were now cruising down the interstate following Bobby's truck.
"There's still one thing that's bothering me," Dean announced.
"Yeah?" Sam looked over at him.
"The night I bit it. Or.. got bit," Dean chuckled a little at his own joke. "How'd you two make it out? I thought Lilith was going to kill you both."
"Well, she tried," Sam told him. "She couldn't."
"What do you mean, she couldn't?"
"She fired this, like, burning light at us, and... didn't leave a scratch," I said. "Like we were immune or something."
"Immune?" Dean glanced at me in the rearview mirror.
"Yeah. I don't know who was more surprised, her or us," I shrugged. "She left pretty fast after that."
"Huh. What about Ruby, where is she?"
"Dead," Sam supplied. "For now."
Dean bit his lip, hesitating a moment, and I knew he wanted to ask us if either of us had used our powers at all.
"So," he started slowly, "either of you been using your, uh, freaky ESP stuff?"
"No," Sam and I both chorused.
"You sure about that?" Dean challenged us. "Well, I mean, now that you two've got... immunity, whatever the hell that is... just wondering what other kind of weirdo crap you've got going on."
"Nothing, Dean," Sam insisted. "Look, I can't speak for Ellie, but you didn't want me going down that road, so I didn't go down that road. It was practically your dying wish."
Dean was silent, glaring back at me in the mirror.
"Yeah, well, let's keep it that way," he said.
⁘
Bobby's psychic friend was a strong, beautiful woman in her thirties with dark hair and sparkling blue eyes accompanying a ready smile.
"Bobby!" she greeted the hunter when she opened the door.
She grabbed him in a hug, lifting him briefly off the ground. Sam, Dean and I shared a look.
"You're a sight for sore eyes," Bobby smiled at her.
Pamela stepped back, eyeing Sam and Dean up and down before looking at me in between them.
"So, these the kids?"
"Sam, Dean, Ellie," Bobby introduced us. "This is Pamela Barnes, best damn psychic in the state."
"Hey," Dean greeted flirtatiously.
"Hi," Sam said a little more awkwardly while I just waved.
"Mmm-mmm-mmm," Pamela hummed, eyeing Dean again. "Dean Winchester. Out of the fire and back in the frying pan, huh? Make you a rare individual."
"If you say so."
"Come on in."
She ushered us in, first Bobby, then Dean, then Sam with me in the rear before shutting the door behind us.
"So, you hear anything?" Bobby asked her.
"Well, I Ouija'd my way through a dozen spirits," Pamela informed us. "No one seems to know who broke your boy out, or why."
"So what's next?" I inquired.
"A séance, I think. See if we can see who did the deed."
"You're not gonna... summon the damn thing here," Bobby spoke worriedly.
"No, I just wanna sneak a peek at it," Pamela corrected him. "Like a crystal ball without the crystal."
"I'm game," Dean shrugged.
⁘
Pamela flirted with Dean while setting up the séance, even inviting Sam to join her and Dean which he quickly shot down. Part of me was bothered by the fact that Dean so easily went back to his womanizing ways after only being back a short period, but I reminded myself that it didn't matter. We weren't together, and besides, I had Brigham now. Once the table had everything in place, we all sat around it in a circle. Pamela sat in between Sam and Dean. I sat on Dean's other side and Bobby was between me and Sam.
"Right. Take each other's hands," Pamela instructed us and we did. "And I need to touch something our mystery monster touched."
A second after she said it, Dean jumped, his knee bumping the underside of the table.
"Whoa. Well, he didn't touch me there," Dean said.
"My mistake," Pamela smirked.
Dean glanced around nervously, then took off his outer shirt, pulling his sleeve back to reveal the brand again. Once again, I had to fight the urge to reach out and touch it. Sam was staring at it, shocked before looking over at Bobby and I, both of us expressionless. Pamela covered the handprint with her palm and closed her eyes. The rest of us followed suit.
"Okay. I invoke, conjure, and command you, appear unto me before this circle. I invoke, conjure, and command you, appear unto me before this circle. I invoke, conjure, and command you, appear unto me before this circle."
The television flicked on with static and I started to hear a familiar voice as Pamela continued.
"I invoke, conjure, and command... Castiel? No. Sorry, Castiel, I don't scare easy."
"Castiel?" Dean repeated.
Both he and I had opened our eyes when the TV flickered on.
"Its name," I informed him. "It's whispering to her, warning her to go back."
"Wait, can you-" Dean looked over at me, but Pamela continued over him.
"I conjure and command you, show me your face. I conjure and command you, show me your face. I conjure and command you, show me your face. I conjure and command you, show me your face."
The white noise and rattling of the table were becoming more violent then and both Bobby and Sam had also opened their eyes, leaving Pamela the only one still closed.
"Pamela, you need to stop," I told her.
"I almost got it," she dismissed me. "I command you, show me your face. Show me your face now!"
Suddenly, the candles flared up several feet in the air and Pamela began to scream. Her eyes flew open and were filled with a white flame. As she collapsed, the rattling, white noise and flames all died out. Bobby managed to catch her before she hit the floor.
"Call 9-1-1!" he yelled.
Sam scrambled out of his chair and into the other room, fumbling to get his phone out of his pocket. I was just staring at Pamela horror struck as Dean stood up and walked over to her and Bobby. It had looked exactly like what happened to Wrath when I killed him nearly a year ago. Her eyes flew open, revealing nothing but empty sockets while she sobbed.
"I can't see! I can't see! Oh God!"
We could just make out Sam's voice calling for an ambulance in the other room.
