Once Bobby and I regained consciousness, we headed into the building and made it to a room where Crowley was reciting the incantation to open the door. Raphael was standing beside him, and I threw an angel blade at him. Without turning, the angel caught it. He and Crowley both turned to look at us, and the demon threw me and Bobby down the stairs. I didn't know where Bobby landed, but I fell on a table before getting thrown to the ground and I groaned.
"Bit busy, gentlemen," Crowley informed us. "Be with you in a moment."
He turned back to the sigil on the wall, resuming the incantation. However, when he reached the end, nothing happened.
"Mm-hmmm. Maybe I said it wrong."
Cass appeared in the room, holding an empty jar of blood.
"You said it perfectly. All you needed was this," he set the jar down.
Bobby and I managed to get up, staring at the beings in front of us.
"I see," Crowley walked back over to the wall and touched the blood. "And we've been working with..."
He tasted it.
"Dog blood. Naturally."
"Enough of these games, Castiel," Raphael said. "Give us the blood."
"You- Game's over. His jar's empty," Crowley pointed out. "So, Castiel, how'd your ritual go? Better than ours, I'll bet."
Cass closed his eyes and a bright light began emanating from him. We were all forced to shield our eyes until the light faded away.
"You can't imagine what it's like," Cass said. "They're all inside me. Millions upon millions of souls."
"Sounds sexy. Exit stage Crowley."
The demon disappeared, leaving Bobby, Raphael, and I alone with Cass. Raphael actually looked frightened.
"Now, what's the matter, Raphael?" Cass taunted. "Somebody clip your wings?"
"Castiel, please. You let the demon go, but not your own brother?"
"The demon I have plans for. You on the other hand..."
Cass snapped his fingers and Raphael exploded, much like Cass did when Lucifer killed him in the cemetery. The angel blade Raphael had been holding clattered to the ground.
"So you see," Cass turned to look at me, "I saved you."
"Sure thing, Cass," I said, trying to hide how terrified I was in that moment. "Thank you."
"You doubted me, fought against me, but I was right all along."
"Okay, Cass, you were," I nodded. "We're sorry. Now let's just diffuse you, alright?"
I held out my hands in a placating gesture, taking a step toward him.
"What do you mean?" Cass asked.
"You're full of nuke. It's not safe. Before the eclipse ends, let's get them souls back to where they belong."
"Oh no, they belong with me."
"No, Cass," I shook my head, swallowing hard, "it's- it's scrambling your brain."
"No, I'm not finished yet," he insisted. "Raphael had many followers, and I must punish them all severely."
"Listen to me. Listen, I know there's a lot of bad water under the bridge, but we were family once. I'd have died for you. I almost did a few times. So if that means anything to you..." I trailed off, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes, but I forced myself to keep talking. "Please. I almost lost Ellie and Maddie, and now I've lost Sam. Don't make me lose you, too. You don't need this kind of juice anymore, Cass. Get rid of it before it kills us all."
"You're just saying that because I won," Cass shook his head. "Because you're afraid. You're not my family Dean. I have no family."
Without warning, Sam stabbed Cass in the back with Raphael's fallen angel blade. I didn't know how he had gotten here, or when, but it just added to my shock as nothing happened to Cass. Sam groaned as Cass pulled the blade out, which was completely clean, and set it down.
"I'm glad you made it, Sam," Cass greeted my brother. "But the angel blade won't work, because I'm not an angel anymore. I'm your new God. A better one. So you will bow down and profess your love unto me, your Lord. Or I shall destroy you."
