I walked back to Bobby's. It took me forever, but I did get there eventually. When I walked in, I did a double take. Sam and Dean's half brother, Adam, was sitting at the table in the kitchen, Cass standing nearby watching him. Bobby was in the study and Sam was coming up the stairs from the basement.
"How's he doing?" Bobby asked.
Sam shrugged, scoffing.
"How you doing?"
Sam nodded slightly, running a hand tiredly down his face.
"So... what'd I miss?" I asked tentatively.
Everyone's eyes turned to me.
"You're back," Sam said.
"Yeah, well, my dad reminded me where I needed to be, so here I am."
"Your... dad?"
"I'll tell you later," I waved a hand dismissively. "So, what'd I miss?"
"Well, Dean's shut in the panic room and the angels apparently have decided Adam is going to take his place as Michael's vessel, so basically we have a house full of flight risks who both want to say 'yes' to an archangel, so... not much."
I snorted, rolling my eyes at Sam's use of sarcasm. Cass moved away from Adam toward the stairs, heading down to check on Dean.
"So, where exactly-"
Sam was cut off as a scream that sounded a lot like Cass echoed up from the basement. Sam and I immediately bolted down the stairs, but we were too late. Dean had escaped, and, based on the banishing sigil drawn on the inside of the cabinet in the panic room, he'd gotten rid of Cass to do it.
"Where's Cass?" Bobby asked as we came back up.
"Blown to Oz," I replied. "Look, we'll get Dean. He couldn't have gone too far. Just watch Adam."
"How? You may have noticed, he's got a slight height advantage."
"Then cuff him to your chair," Sam suggested. "I don't know. Just watch him."
⁘
Sam and I looked for several hours, but when we came up empty, we headed back to the house. When we arrived, Bobby was sitting alone in his study.
"Bobby, what do you mean, 'Adam is gone'?" Sam demanded.
"Should I say it in Spanish?" Bobby quipped.
"He's gone how? What the hell, Bobby?!"
"Mind your tone, boy. He was right in front of me, and he disappeared into thin air."
Castiel appeared in the room carrying a bloody and battered Dean.
"Because the angels took him," he said.
"What the hell happened to him?" I inquired.
"Me," the angel replied.
He dropped Dean on the cot Adam had been using in the study.
"What do you mean the angels took Adam?" Bobby asked. "You branded his ribs, didn't you?"
"Oh, so everyone gets that except me, huh?" I asked. "Lovely."
Castiel gave a huff, coming over and holding his hand over me, palm glowing white with grace. A burning sensation went through me and I gasped.
"There. Now you can stop your complaining," the angel grumbled. "As for your question, I did, but Adam must have tipped them."
