When we arrived in the hot zone, 2014!Dean started barking out orders until 2009!Dean asked to have a moment with him off to the side.
"Tell me what's going on," my Dean demanded.
"What?" 2014!Dean asked.
"I know you," past Dean continued. "You're lying to those people and to us."
"Is that so?"
"Yeah. See, I know your lying expressions. I've seen them in the mirror. Now, there's something you're not telling us."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, really? Well, I don't seem to be the only member of your posse with some questions, so, uh, maybe I'll just take my doubts over to them."
My Dean started back toward the group when 2014!Dean put out a hand and stopped him.
"Okay, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait."
"What?"
"Take a look around you, man. This place should be white-hot with Croats. Where are they?"
Dean and I looked around, realizing that future Dean was right... the place was eerily empty besides our group.
"They cleared a path for us," I voiced. "Which means that this is-"
"A trap," 2014!Dean finished. "Exactly."
"Well, then we can't go through the front," my Dean pointed out.
"Oh, we're not. They are. They're the decoys. You two and me, we're going in through the back."
"You mean you're gonna feed your friends into a meat grinder?" I demanded. "Cass, too? You want to use their deaths as a diversion?"
2014!Dean looked away.
"Oh, man, something is broken in you," my Dean said. "You're making decisions that I would never make. I wouldn't sacrifice my friends."
"You're right. You wouldn't. It's one of the main reasons we're in this mess, actually."
"These people count on you. They trust you."
"They trust me to kill the Devil and save the world, and that's exactly what I'm gonna do."
"No. Not like this you're not. I'm not gonna let you."
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah."
2014!Dean slugged my Dean across the face, knocking him out cold again. He then looked to me.
"You're not going to do that to me again, too, are you?"
"That depends, are you going to try and stop me, too?"
I looked down at my Dean, then back up at his future counterpart, shaking my head.
"Good. Let's go."
After sending the rest of the group through the front and waiting for the sound of them getting slaughtered, 2014!Dean led me around back and my heart dropped in my chest. Two figures, both dressed all in white, stood there, waiting. One looked like Sam, but his eyes were empty and cold. A pair of fluffy, pure white wings were on his back. The person standing next to him was... me. She was wearing a white outfit to go with Lucifer's white suit... and she was several months pregnant. She winked at me as Sam... Lucifer and Dean began to fight. Dean drew the Colt, but it was ripped from his grasp and tossed into a far corner of the garden.
The two engaged in hand-to-hand combat, ending with Dean on the ground with Lucifer's foot on his neck. My Dean came back into the garden then, seeing his future self on the ground. 2014!Dean opened his eyes, looking at us, and then Lucifer's foot shifted and there was an audible snap as Dean's neck broke. 2014!me put her hand on Lucifer's shoulder, whispering something into his ear, and he turned.
"Oh. Hello, Dean. Ecclesia."
Dean and I just stared at Lucifer and my future self, not saying anything.
"Aren't you a surprise," Lucifer continued.
There was a crack of thunder and lightning, and with a flap of his wings, Lucifer was suddenly behind us.
"You've come a long way to see this, haven't you?"
Dean turned to face the Devil, but I was still staring at... me. My eyes flickered down to 2014!me's stomach, heart clenching in my chest. I was vaguely aware of a conversation happening between Lucifer and Dean, but I couldn't focus on anything besides my future self.
"You should pay attention, Ellie Bellie," she taunted, nodding her chin in the direction of the two males.
I flinched at the use of Brigham's old nickname for me, then turned around slowly, glancing back at future me one last time.
"You ever hear the story of how I fell from grace?" Lucifer asked Dean.
"Oh, good God, you're not gonna tell me a bedtime story, are you? My stomach's almost out of bile."
"You know why God cast me out? Because I loved him. More than anything. And then God created..." Lucifer smirked, "you. The little... hairless apes. And then he asked all of us to bow down before you- to love you, more than him. And I said, 'Father, I can't.' I said, 'These humans are flawed, murderous.' And for that, God had Michael cast me into Hell. Now, tell me, does the punishment fit the crime? Especially, when I was right? Look at what six billion of you have done to this thing, and how many of you blame me for it."
"You're not fooling me, you know that?" Dean spat. "With this sympathy-for-the-Devil crap. I know what you are."
"What am I?"
"You're the same thing, only bigger. The same brand of cockroach I've been squashing my whole life. An ugly, belly-to-the-ground, supernatural piece of crap. The only difference between them and you is the size of your ego."
Lucifer smiled, cold eyes glinting.
"I like you, Dean. I get what the other angels see in you. Goodbye. We'll meet again soon."
The Devil moved to head back over to 2014!me when Dean stopped him again.
"You better kill me now!"
My eyes snapped to Dean, Lucifer also pausing to stare.
"Pardon?"
"You better kill me now. Or I swear, I will find a way to kill you. And I won't stop."
"I know you won't," Lucifer agreed. "I know you won't say yes to Michael, either. And I know you won't kill Sam. Whatever you do, you will always end up here. Whatever choices you make, whatever details you alter, we will always end up- here. I win. So, I win."
"You're wrong."
"See you in five years, Dean. Take care of my Ecclesia for me."
Lucifer wrapped an arm around 2014!me, and with another crack of thunder and lightning, they had both vanished. Dean and I turned to see Zachariah, who reached for both our foreheads with two fingers.
