The next day, Rod woke up with a letter on his desk beside his bed.
He stood up, took it, and looked for Maria.
He called out for her name several times out the window of their small house.
No response.
He sat down on his red arm chair, and read the letter:
Hey pops,
First, I am so sorry for this. I always wanted to get into college, and I don't see myself having a future if I stay any longer. I also want a woman here in my life. I've found a woman named Marie Heussaff, and I think it'd be right to go to her for now. I will finish college, find myself a good paying job, and I will find a way to come back and bring our family to the top. I promise you won't have to work to earn a single penny ever again.
Love,
Maria H. Valine
