Sydney P.O.V.
There was complete silence.
Balthazar had told us this story hundreds of times before- heck, it had been my favorite bedtime story. But what he failed to mention, was that this Lorilei had a surname. And it matched that of the girl sitting right in front of me.
When I heard Ezra calling out about some new visitor this morning, I couldn't help but tense. What if it were... him? I shuddered at the thought and felt a chill run down my spine. I sheathed my dagger and ran down the huge staircase. Alex was right behind me, followed by Laura, both of whom seemed as nervous as me. We just acknowledged each other with a nod and rushed down the stairs.
As soon as I saw the scared girl standing at the foot of the stairway and sensed the amount of energy radiated by her, I gasped. She's here, I thought.
I knew the entire Fear-is-here-so-get-your-shit-together speech made by Bal a day ago was true, but I didn't exactly expect 'The Saviour' to pop in for coffee the very next day. Well, this explains the gravity of the situation, I thought dryly.
Standing here before her, I realised how wrong I was. This is freaking Code Red.
And by the stunned expressions of every one else in the room, I assumed they realised it too.
"What!?" Laura exclaimed. "I thought you said she was just 'The One' ! You didn't say anything about her being the descendant of Lorilei! And when were you planning on telling us about the entire descendant part of the prophesy, huh? After Fear destroys us all?"
Bal gave a slight shake of his head and said, "Laura, I expect you to keep your calm in situations like this. And I was going to tell you all about this in the right time. Which, of course, was right now."
Avery, suddenly shook her head and managed to collect her jaw from the floor, before asking, "Wait. I don't understand. Why is it such a big deal about me being a 'descendant' of this Lorilei? I mean, isn't it enough that I can supposedly control all elements?"
Alex just shook his head. A grave expression was etched onto his handsome features. "You don't understand," he said, "This is not just about you anymore. This becomes personal."
"P-personal?" Avery whispered.
"Yeah," I replied, "This means Fear has a stronger motive to come after you."

I couldn't believe my ears.
Wasn't it bad enough that I could control all the freaking elements of nature? Why did this have to be forced upon me, too?
"Wait." I asked, sitting up straighter. "I thought you said that only descendants of Lorilei could control all five elements. Wasn't that obvious that I would be a great-to-the-power-infinity times grand daughter?"
"No." Balthazar replied, a solemn look on his face. "Throughout the centuries, many people were born who could control all five elements. But none of them were relations of Lori. And you misunderstood the prophesy. It said that a descendant of Lori could defeat Fear, not just be the master of the elements. If Fear already knows that you were a relation of the very Lorilei who once defeated him, he would work double harder to kill you and anyone related to you. That includes us."
My head was spinning. I couldn't think straight. Added to that was the incessant rumbling of my stomach.
Balthazar must have heard my stomach singing 'Wrecking Ball' while doing fancy zumba, as the next thing he said was, "It's quite late, people. I think you all should go have some breakfast. Laura, Sydney, why don't you show Avery here the dining room? Alex, Ezra, I need you to come help me with something. And Luke, go and ask Thomas if Avery's room is set or not."
