Everything was a blur.
People running in and out of my house trying to salvage anything that is slightly burnt or untouched by the fire. Neighbours offering their condolences. Calls from the school office saying that I can take a leave from school for as long as I want, but it shouldn't extend two weeks. Phone beeping because of the constant Facebook updates of my school mates, offering their condolences. Amidst all these, Luke's hands never left mine, and my eyes never left his. Call me stupid, call me superstitious, but I had this weird gut feeling that Luke KNEW this was going to happen-- that my parents were going to die. But he was WITH me the whole time, and he's new to Clayton Hills. How could he know?
Yet....
"This wasn't supposed to happen..." he murmured.
"What?" I snapped, surprised that HE should say such a thing.
Luke just shook his head wildly, all the time muttering "No,no..." and his grip tightened on your arm, almost protectively.
"What do you mean, Luke? Luke! Look at me!" I screamed, grabbing his face with both my palms and forced his face to look at mine. As soon as I looked into those shocking blue irises of his, I felt a sense of comfort roll through me like a wave. This newfound comfort helped me continue.
"Luke, what are you saying? Why are you muttering? Listen, I think you should get some rest..."
"I promised them!" Luke screamed, startling me. "I told them I'd protect you AND them, I promised them I'd never let you get hurt, I..." he trailed off, with regret and failure clearly painted on the pained expression on his face.
WHAT? What does he mean? Who did he promise? My parents? How did he know them? And who WAS he?
Afraid I'd anger him further, I lightly touched his arm, causing him to shudder at my cold fingertips. The crowd in front of my house had disappeared, leaving only us sitting on the sidewalk right in front of my house. Not a car was in sight as it was still around 5:30, and the neighbours had probably gone to sleep. Still, I lowered my voice to a whisper, and asked him in the gentlest tone possible," Luke? Please look at me. What do you mean? Did you know my my parents? HOW did you know them? And what promise did you make to them? And..."
"I need to show you something." Luke said suddenly, his voice a raspy whisper and the expression on his face hardened, showing no trace of the remorse that he felt earlier.
"Uh... okay.." But before I had time to finish my sentence, he grabbed me by my forearm and his eyes turned completely blue. And not his original eye colour, but his ENTIRE fudging eye turned completely blue. I gasped in shock, and tried to free my hands from his, but his grip was like iron. Suddenly from out of nowhere, another man---no,, more like boy, appeared. He could not have been older than Luke, but still looked as formidable as Luke was looking right now. His eyes glowed PURPLE just once and I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness and the last thing I saw were the shocking blue eyes of this known stranger standing in front of me.

When I woke up, I realised the sky was different. Heck, even the GROUND felt different.
I must have fallen down when I had fainted. Obviously. But now when I opened my eyes, I felt as if I was floating. The grass below my body felt softer than silk, and the sky that was visible from my lying position in the ground was so different from the one I was accustomed to. Instead of the dull grey sky with the permanently situated clouds of Clayton Hills, this sky was bluer. The colour reminded me of Luke's eyes... Gods, I was seriously going mad. But I liked it. This new atmosphere almost made me forget about my problems--about my parents. This definitely was not in front of my house. But wherever this place was, I would readily spend an eternity here, just gazing at the stars.
