"The doctor says I should be fine after a few weeks. I'll be out in no time!"
"You know very well that's not what he said." Ten sliced an apple into clean-cut pieces before arranging them on a small plate. "You're lucky you didn't get more severe injuries."
It had been a week since their accident and Ten rushing to the hospital at the news. Luckily for them, Jeonghan only sustained an injury to his right arm, and Vernon had his left arm in a sling. Joshua had a few bruises but overall, things were okay. A few months to recover, was what the doctors had said.
"I can drive. The accident isn't so bad," Jeonghan added, reaching across to pick an apple slice before Ten glared at him to lie back. "I don't think I have any trauma."
"Joshua is the only one driving until you recover," Ten reinstated his point. Vernon sat at the foot of the hospital bed, nodding along to his words. "Even if you feel like you can, you aren't allowed near the steering wheel."
The last thing they wanted was Jeonghan disobeying the doctor's orders, resulting in another accident. Who knows what more damage would occur?
"Not only that, we should be thankful that you're okay," Vernon muttered, sharing a glance with Ten. "And that cut on your face shouldn't take long to heal."
Jeonghan sighed, unfortunately for him, accepting defeat was the only thing he could do. Being blessed with such caring friends surely wasn't easy. "EJ is coming?"
"Yes, he mentioned he's bringing something too," Joshua piped up from his seat.
"He's late," Ten grumbled, giving Jeonghan an apple slice by placing it in his left palm. The boy happily accepted the fruit while his best friend rambled on. "He didn't have time last week, so why isn't he here yet?"
As if on cue, the door opened to reveal EJ Caswell balancing a white box on his knee. The four in the room stared at him; it was almost comical to see their friend like this. To them, he seemed to mimic a knight in shining armour.
"Lobster rolls for the great guy, Eric."
"Real food." Jeonghan grinned as EJ gave a roll to each person. "And the sweetest friend, Elton John Caswell."
EJ made a face, briefly reeling from the mention of his full name. "Ugh. Don't call me that."
"Hey, I at least should say it once more in my life. You should be grateful we promised when we first met."
"Eleven years and counting," Ten added.
When they were much younger, EJ made them promise to never call him by his full name, embarrassed for being named after his parents' favourite musician. He already had a lot of pressure as the sole son of the Caswell name, sharing a name with an icon was a whole other level. Besides, he was nicknamed by his family as EJ since birth, and he planned to keep it that way.
However, he did allow his friends to only say it once more in their lifetime. Think of it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity coupon. After that, they were to pretend it never happened.
"It was a silly promise," EJ admitted, ears turning red at the amusing memory.
"Did you eat?" Ten asked, placing the plate of fruit onto the table before pouring a glass of water for his friend. "Joshua got some pancakes from the diner."
Through chewing his food, Vernon raised his hand and managed to respond before EJ did. "Umm, I ate it all."
"Really?" Joshua immediately stood to his feet, dusting his hands. In the short span of time, he'd somehow inhaled most of his lobster roll. "Then I can go out if you haven't—"
