Hallway after hallway, the cells never ended. Mina didn't know where to look and she had to carefully go passed each cell to not alert any prisoners of her presence. There were also a few guards she had to avoid, which meant she lost track of where she actually was. But then she heard two guards talking about a girl imprisoned for injuring the princess. She listened closely, taking in their words.
"I wonder how it happened. That peasant must have held a huge grudge to want to harm the princess," laughed one of the guards.
"I bet she was jealous of the princess, living such a luxurious life while she breathes in the slums."
"Well, now she's breathing in the freshness of prison air!"
"But you have to admit, she's lucky that she was put in solitary confinement. Who knows what could've happened if she were put with the other criminals about here..."
Mina's blood boiled as she listened to the exchange between the guards. As much as she wanted to march up to them and teach them a lesson, she composed herself. Finding Momo was the first priority.
As Mina made her way passed the other hallways, she turned around a corner to see different hallways with singular cells at the end. She felt that she was getting closer to where Momo was.
The princess went passed every hallway, looking down each and every one of them. When she came across one, she didn't expect to see the captain of the guards in front of a lone cell. She quickly hid behind the corner, listening.
"Look, Momo... I can't stop their decision. It would be too risky."
Mina's heart started beating as she heard Momo's name.
"Dammit, Jeongyeon! Isn't there something? Anything?!"
"Calm down! You think I haven't been trying?" The captain sighed, her voice quivering. "I don't want to lose you, my friend. But... I also can't risk losing my life, either."
It was silent between the two.
"...I know, Jeongyeon. I guess this is it, then."
"This is it, then..."
"Just, please tell my family I love them."
Mina couldn't take the exchange anymore. She rushed out from behind the wall, saying, "no, this isn't it, Momo."
Momo peered up, her eyes widening. "M-Mina? What are you doing here?"
"Your highness?!" Jeongyeon questioned, quickly bowing.
"Captain Yoo," Mina nodded to her, smiling. She turned her attention back to Momo, kneeling down. "Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?"
"N-No... they didn't," Momo looked down, remembering their exchange after Mina awoke from her coma. "Why did you lie, Mina?"
Mina's heart started to ache again after seeing her lover's saddened face. "I didn't want to put us in danger, Momo. At the time, I didn't know you were put on trial."
"B-But I wasn't put on trial?"
"What?"
"If I may, your highness," the captain stepped in. "The king and queen automatically deemed this as an act of treason, therefore Momo was put in solitary confinement."
Mina turned back to look into Momo's eyes, staring at her swollen orbs.
Momo sulked, looking away. "I'm sorry for doubting you, princess..."
"Momo... it's okay," Mina whispered, giving a light smile.
"How does your head feel?" Momo asked, touching Mina's bandages from behind the cell bars.
