Chapter 30

THE PAW Patroller made it back to Adventure Bay. It was now midnight. All of the pups were exhausted except for Chase.
He wasn't sure if he could lead the pups on  rescues, especially for two months.
"Pups, tonight you can all sleep in my room" Ryder said. "Really?" Chase wagged his tail.

"Yay! We get to sleep with Ryder!" Marshall said. Ryder and the pups went to Ryder's bedroom. "Pups, I have something not nice to announce" Ryder said, as he was getting in bed.
"What is it?" Zuma asked.
Ryder leaned his back on his pillow and pulled the blanket over his legs. The pups all gathered around him.

"I just realized that the new headquarters will be Barkingburg which means I need to build the equipment and gadgets over there" Ryder said. "So your leaving for two months?" Rubble said, his eyes started to swell with tears.
Chase's eyes started getting teary and he began to whimper.

Ryder brought Chase next to him and the other pups because they all had sad faces.
"I know it's going to be a long time but it's something I have to do. I don't want to do it but what else can we do?" Ryder said.

"Can we come with you?" Skye asked. "What about Adventure Bay? Who will do the rescues?" Ryder said.
Skye looked down with sad magenta eyes. "Two months. That's so long" Rocky said.

"Ryder, I can't lead the team" Chase said. "Chase, I know you can. That's why I chose you to lead while I'm away" Ryder said.
"Your a smart and brave pup and I know you can do it. I know you won't let me down, Chase. You have the heart of a leader" Ryder pointed to Chase's chest.

"Chase, your going to be a great leader!" Skye said. "Yeah! That's why Ryder chose you!" Marshall said. All of the pups started encouraging Chase that he could lead the team.
"So, what do you say?" Ryder said, "are you going to lead the team for me?". Chase stood quiet for a moment. "I will!" he barked bravely.

"That's my Chase!" Ryder said, hugging the German Shepherd pup. That night, all of the pups slept on Ryder's bed.

As soon as the sun started to rise, Ryder's alarm clock started going off.
Ryder stretched out and shut off the clock. The pups had wanted to wake up with Ryder so that they could say goodbye to him when it was time for him to leave to Barkingburg.

The pups started stretching and yawning. "Let's go have breakfast" Ryder said, slipping on his furry Chase slippers.
The pups jumped off of the bed.

After washing up, Ryder made himself some sausage with eggs. Instead of pup-food for breakfast, Ryder made enough sausage and eggs for the pups also. They all had a good portion in their bowls. Rubble ate the fastest.

"When are you leaving?" Rocky sadly asked. "After breakfast, I'm gonna call the Princess and ask her if I could stay in the castle.
Then I'll pack my stuff and go" Ryder said. Chase didn't say anything.
Ryder could tell he was in deep thought and through his brown eyes, Ryder could see a whirlpool of emotions spinning all at once.

"I'm gonna call the Princess now" Ryder said, placing his plate in the sink. "I know she's going to let you stay in the castle. The Princess is so kind" Marshall said.

Ryder pulled out his pup-pad and called the Princess. She then popped up on the screen. "Hi Ryder! What makes you call?" Princess asked. "I was thinking last night, I just realized that the new headquarters will be Barkingburg which means I need to build the equipment and gadgets there.
So I was going to ask you, could I stay in the castle for two months until I'm finished building everything?" Ryder asked.

"Of course you can stay here. We have lots of rooms in this castle. Your welcome to stay" Princess said.
"Thank you Princess. I'm gonna pack my stuff right now and then I'll be on my way" Ryder said. "We're gonna set up your room nicely. Are the pups coming?" Princess asked.
