To Die For (Shikamaru x Fem Reader)

The Attack

"Why are the Sunagakure Anbu here!" You yell to your captain clinging to the documents you collected from the body of a dead shinobi from the hidden mist. "It doesn't matter! We need to get those documents to the Allied HQ imme..." your captain suddenly stopped mid sentence. You look over to see his dead body falling from the tree.
You're going as fast as your body can take but the trees seem to go on forever. " I'm out of chakra and my energy is spent!" Right at that moment you feel a kick to your stomach knocking you off the tree sending you to the ground. "How did they get in front of me?"
As you're getting up to make your escape, sand wraps around your leg and immobilizes you. You try to make sense of it all but the tightening grip and the sound of bones crunching made that thought disappear. "Finally, you can't get away from us that easily!" Three Sunagakure approach you laughing at the pain and trauma you're going through. "Let's just finish her off and destroy the documents." The one to your right smiles unnaturally as you hear and feel a snap in your leg followed by searing pain.
You let out a mortified and pain filled scream that echoed through the forest. Suddenly you hear a deep voice "That's enough." The three men focused on someone behind you and began shifting into pale inhuman creatures that resembled a man but had spikes on their bodies. You could hear fighting going on behind you but eventually it stopped. Hearing footsteps coming up from behind, you pray it was the one who came to save you. "You're going to be alright." You sigh in relief hearing the voice of the man who saved you. "I'm glad I got here on time!" The sand around your leg released causing you to fall back against a tree, the pain was unbearable to the point where you started to lose consciousness.
Who was he?...

    *Fast forward*

(???): "How is she?"
(Medic): "She's stable and recovering at a great pace! Her leg was broken pretty badly so she won't be returning to the war anytime soon."
(???): "I see. Do you know who she is?"
(Medic): "I believe her name is (Y/N) from the Hidden Leaf Village."
(???): "I wonder why I've never seen her before."
(Medic): "While I was examining her wounds I discovered she has an Anbu symbol. This may be the reason you haven't seen her, considering all the missions they have."
(???): "Anbu huh? I'd like to talk to her as soon as she is awake. For now I have to rejoin my company and do my part in this war. I'll come back when I get the chance."
(Medic): "Please be safe, Shikamaru."

As Shikamaru starts to exit the tent he stops and looks back. "What a drag..."

You started waking up after what seemed to be a day or two, the last thing you remember was being carried away. As you're taking in your surroundings you notice your leg, which is now wrapped up, and stitches holding together a long and deep cut.

(Medic): "You're finally awake!"

You look around trying to find the person who spoke. Finally you see a pink haired woman approaching you with a bag full of medicine.

(Medic): "When you were brought here you were in pretty bad shape, you're one lucky shinobi!"

You stared at her with confusion not knowing what was going on, let alone who she was.

(Medic): "Oh I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself didn't I? I'm Sakura Haruno! I've been taking care of you for the past week!"
(Y/N): "Did you just say a week?!"
(Sakura): "Yes. You were completely drained of energy and chakra. You lost a lot of blood too."
(Y/N): "What about my leg? When can I go back to my company?"
(Sakura): "We still have quite a few treatments before you can return. Your leg was snapped in 4 places. But if you keep recovering at the rate you have been you should be back in no time!"
(Y/N): "Great... By the way who was the man who brought me here?"
(Sakura): "His name is Shikamaru Nara, when he arrived with you in his arms he basically ran into the tent! He looked really concerned about you and asked a lot of questions."
(Y/N): "Is he around? I'd like to thank him for saving my life. He didn't have to but he did."
(Sakura): "No he went back to his company the day after he brought you. He stayed with you all night making sure that things went well."
(Y/N): "I've never had someone pay that much attention to me before."

You looked down at your uncovered Anbu tattoo.

(Y/N): "And it looks like you found out that I'm in the Anbu. Does anyone else know?"
(Sakura): "Only me and Shikamaru know. We decided it's best to keep it between the three of us, to avoid unwanted attention ya know?"
(Y/N): "Thank you, I'm glad I can count on you to keep this a secret."
(Sakura): "You can count on me!"

Another medic enters the tent looking panicked. Followed by...a pig?

(Medic): "Sakura we need you in tent number 2 immediately!"
(Sakura to you): "I need to go now! Get some rest and we will talk later!"

Before you could say anything both women were out of the tent followed by the pig.

(Y/N): "I wonder when I'll be able to meet Shikamaru."

You had a lot of questions running through your head, but Sakura was right, you needed rest. Resting your head on the pillow you close your eyes, doing your best to ignore all the noise around you, you eventually drift off.
