To Die For (Shikamaru x Fem Reader)

The Commander Proxy

"I can't believe this is actually happening. Damn this reanimation jutsu. First pain, now Madara?"

I'm making my way back to my company to rejoin Ino and Choji because HQ said they need the Inoshikacho formation to seal some guy named Kinkaku. Apparently he has a brother named Ginkaku but HQ said Darui sealed him already.

(Ino): "Shikamaru over here!!!"

I look over to my left and see Ino and Choji running towards me. I meet up with them and we start running to our destination.

"I thought you guys would've been there already."
(Choji): "Yeah but Ino said we should all show up together."
"Wait, Really?"
(Ino): "Well yeah we need to make a big appearance and prove we are as strong as our dads! That's probably who their expecting to see!"
(Thinking to self): "Well she does have a good point. But a big appearance?"
(Ino): "Shikamaru, Choji! Hurry it up already!"

Typical Ino, Asuma-Sensei did say she was bossy which is true. As we are coming up to the battle I see Choji looking worried.

"Choji are you alright?"
(Choji): "I'm getting really nervous..."
"This isn't the time Choji, our comrades need us."
(Choji): "I know but he looks really scary..."

Choji points to Kinkaku. Why the hell does he look like a tailed beast? That's almost identical to Narutos! We get into our formation and begin our attack on Kinkaku. Choji makes his move with the human yo-yo and rams right into the bastard. My turn. I use my shadow possession and connect myself to him, but he has strong chakra and I don't think I can hold him for long. Out of nowhere he got out and aimed an attack right at me, I won't be able to get out of the way in time!
...The attack stopped? But how? I look behind me and see that Ino completed mind transfer jutsu. I thought I was done for. We successfully sealed Kinkaku by Ino replying to Darui. Finally that's over.

Fast Forward to after the main battle

"I'm spent."
(Ino): "Same here but I'm going to regroup with another company."
(Choji): "I'm going to go with Ino. What are you going to do Shikamaru?"
"I'm going to go back to the medical base. There's something I want to check."
(Ino): "Or someone you want to check!"
"Shut up Ino."

Ino comes up and punches me in the arm.

"What the hell Ino!"
(Ino): "I was joking you moron! Besides who would want to see a loser like you?!"
(Choji): "Come on Ino leave him alone, what he's doing is his business."
(Ino): "Fine! Whatever! Let's go Choji."

They start walking away and out of the corner of my eye I see Choji open a bag of chips. I laugh quietly as I see Ino running her mouth, probably going on about Sai or Sasuke. I don't know why she can't just give it up already, although it is pretty funny to see her and Sakura square up and start insulting each other, calling each other "Billboard Brow" and "Ino-Pig".
Once I know they can't see me anymore I start running towards the medical base I took that injured girl to. Well I guess she's more of a "woman" but saying that makes her sound old like Tsunade, but saying young woman makes me sound like an old geezer. What a drag...I guess I won't have to call her any of those because I know her name already. I think I'll make some stops to see if anyone needs help fighting those zetsu creeps off before I get there.
As I'm making my way I see Kiba and Akamaru, Hinata, Neji and a few others. From what I can tell it seems like Neji is injured so I go over to check on them.

"Hey what's going on? What's wrong with Neji?"
(Kiba): "Neji over used his Byakugan and is acting all weird, he refuses to go to the medical base but in all honesty he looks completely out.."

(Neji): "Shut up Kiba! I told you I'm fine!"
(Kiba): "Yeah keep telling yourself that!"

Kiba leans over to whisper something so Neji couldn't hear us.

(Kiba): "Not too long ago he yelled at Akamaru thinking it was me."

I couldn't help but laugh quietly because Neji is the last person I'd expect to do something like that. I notice Hinata staring at who knows what and playing with her hair nervously.

"What's up with Hinata?"
(Kiba): "She's probably fantasizing about Naruto again."

Hinata quickly turns towards us, her face was bright red and I thought she was going to explode.

(Hinata): "Kiba! Why would you say something like that?!"
(Kiba): "Oh come on Hinata we all know it's true!"

Hinata let out a small squeak and I couldn't tell whether she was mad or embarrassed, maybe both? Either way Kiba was getting a kick out of it. He was right though, we all knew that she loved Naruto deeply and would do anything for him. She might not admit it now but actions speak louder than words and that girl is dedicated and always will be.

"I'm going to head off, I have some business at the medical base."
(Kiba): "Maybe you should take Neji with you!"
(Neji): "Shut up Kiba!"

I take off leaving them to argue about Neji losing it, I know the base isn't too far from here so I should get there really soon. After about 20 minutes I arrive to see a crowd of injured shinobi, this war has really taken its toll on all of us. I begin making my way to the tent the Anbu shinobi was in, I was about to open it when I heard a voice coming from the tent to the right.

(???): "Would you mind taking a look at my arm again? It's still bothering me."

That's impossible. That's Nejis voice! But he's back with Kiba? There's no way he could be here, one, he could barely see when I left, and two, I would've seen him coming by me. This is bad. I go to enter the tent the imposter and Sakura are in as fast as possible.

"Sakura that's not...!"

Before I could finish I hear a loud bang that shook the ground. I went in and saw that Sakura had already figured out that this wasn't Neji. It looked like she sucker-punched the bastard into the ground, that explains why the ground was shaking. She has one hell of a punch that could kill someone if she felt like it.  We both watched as the Neji in front of us turned into zetsu. I started kicking at it to see if it was alive.

"How the hell did you know it wasn't the real Neji?"
(Sakura): "When I told him about TonTon he asked if she'd be rejoining the battle, he didn't know that she's actually a pig."
"Well it looks like you took care of this one but that probably means there are more imposters."
(Sakura): "That seems to be the case. I'll go tell everyone else. Anyone who hasn't been here before are all suspects now."
"Yeah, what about that Anbu girl?"
(Sakura): "I know for a fact she isn't one and... Oh my god I probably scared the hell out of her! Go check on her while I go tell the others!"
"I was already planning on it. That's why I came in the first place."

As I left the tent I could hear Sakura chuckling and saying to herself "Looks like Shikamaru is in love!" I sighed while I walked to the girls tent.

"I'm not in love loser!"

Which made her laugh harder. Damn girls, why do they always assume a guy is in love when they are concerned. I open the tent and the girl is standing there putting shurikens in her side pouch before looking at me. I never really focused on her appearance before, she's actually really beautiful. I shook my head because now isn't the time to focus on a girl. There's a war going on and I'm a commander, this is the last thing I need right now! But me not being able to control my words at the moment it just slipped.

"Wow."
