Chapter 64: It Will Always Be You

*Amanda's Point of View*

"James, that is not how it went. Levi definitely disarmed the bomb." I rolled my eyes shoving more of my PB&J in my mouth. Everyone started laughing.

James smirked at me "True that. Still don't trust him."

I shrugged "I trust him. That should be enough."

He nodded "For now." He gestured his head to the door "Come outside with me for a minute."

He got up and I brought my sandwich. We left Tony, Marco, and Vincent in the kitchen "What's on your mind?"

He leaned on the railing of the deck "I wanted to apologize." I started to speak and he put his finger over my mouth "Eat your sandwich and listen." I nodded, he continued "I fucked up. Every time something good happens I sabotage it." He bit into his lip hanging his head "I am happy for you, for Levi, but part of me is damaged. I wanted to kill Levi, my own brother, for taking away my happiness." He turned to look at me "But I realized I just want you happy, that's what makes me happy." He sighed "I know I have a horrible way of showing it but you two just fit better than we ever did. I tried to make sense of it and realized we don't work that way. You and Levi do. You two from the very beginning started a bond I wouldn't be able to touch if I wanted to. I saw the way he acted to secure your safety. He did it the right way."

He turned looked out at the pond out back "I killed women and children to find you. I went mad. Levi, Levi just went all dark soldier on everyone. I see now you only helped me suppress my demons. You made Levi better." He turned smiling at me "Looks like you held up part of our deal. Instead of turning him into the best surgeon, you turned him into the best version of himself. Don't think I didn't notice how he flipped to dad mode either. He has hated kids and the idea of them his whole life. You tell him your pregnant and he kills anyone in his way. You really did affect him in a good way."

I walked up gently rubbing his back "James, I will always love and cherish the times we had together but you are right. Levi and I deserve each other." He turned to me smiling and nodding. I opened my arms "Hug me?"

He chuckled "Always." He pulled me tight against his chest I breathed in his scent. It used to cause all these strange emotions in me but now it was just the comfort of a best friend.

"Well, this better be an 'I don't love you anymore' hug, or I'm going to fight you."

James backed up smiling "She is all yours." My heartfelt so at ease now. He walked past Levi patting his shoulder.

I looked up at Levi "Soooooo what's up you need something?"

He nodded, He squinted his eyes at me "Yes, it's really important actually. Could you follow me to the office?"

I sighed like I was bored "I don't know Levi I am so busy eating all the food in the house, did you take it up with my secretary? James?"

He raised his eyebrows "hmm I see." He lowered his eyebrows lifting his chin at me "I'll have food in the office."

I rolled my lips in trying not to smile "Oh baby, It must be really important if you are bribing me." I walked past him brushing against his shoulder. He sucked in a breath as I walked by I turned back "You coming?"

He smirked "Not yet, wanna help?"

I rolled my eyes walking to the office. Tony yelled at us "Hey! Are we having a meeting?"

Levi turned to him "No, Amanda has to sign papers and help with Hydra files."

I groaned out "UGHHH, I've been tricked into paperwork. Gross. You owe me."
