Chapter 10

Weeks have gone by and the encounter with Shile seem quite like a distant memory already. The girls had a good laugh about it, a certain someone namely Ewa could not believe that i described a person as beautiful yet i didn't "tap that ass". I hadn't heard from him but I did speak to Sumbo severally. She is as lovely as ever but Shile never came up; I didn't ask and She didn't tell. 

The girls and I are meeting up at Tunrayo's for dinner and a movie. I had invited sumbo and everyone couldn't wait to meet her. I think I must have spoken of her a little too much because even Zeenah claims that it's like she has known her for almost as long as I have but sadly, She called to cancel last minute. 

That was the first thing to go wrong tonight. We were only halfway through dinner when Tunrayo got a call. As soon as she picked up the call, she wore an expression on her face that could only be elicited by her twin brother.

Toba Macaulay A.k.A Tee as he was called by our friend group was notorious for being the schools cold heartthrob. He was known by all, envied by many and even though the ladies had eyes for him, no one that we know of caught his eyes.

Since we all basically got separated after high school, I wasn't really tuned to the Toba show anymore. As a matter of fact, those five years in university was a period when I lost touch with my friends. We were no longer in the same space, communication wasn't what it used to be. Last I heard of Toba, he had left the country due to some circumstances.

That call must have caused something to shift in the room because suddenly Tobi didn't feel hungry anymore and moved to the living room, Tunrayo too became withdrawn as though she was pondering on something she couldn't understand and everywhere was suddenly a different kind of quiet.

Althrough the movie, I couldn't help but notice how quiet Tobi was. We watched a comedy without Tobi laughing at any part of it which is uncharacteristic of her to say the least. Towards the end of the movie, Tunrayo received another call. She picked up the phone and said "I'm coming" to the person on the other end as she moved to climb the stairs. A few minutes later, she returns with a bag and said she had to go to the airport and will see us when she returned.

For some reason, Tobi became even more restless and no sooner than the film ended did she ask that I drive her home. At first, I pretended I didn't hear her because like everyone else, I was planning on sleeping over and going to work from there tomorrow. Plus if she wanted to leave  so badly, she can just drive her own car which by the way, was also parked outside. 

"Gbemi!!! I am serious, please drive me home"

I looked up to see a fidgeting and worried looking Tobi stirring back at me. "well you definitely shouldn't drive in that condition" I thought to myself.

I didn't know what could cause her to become this way but I only had one thing in mind.  I had to get her home first other things can come later.
