𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐄𝐃, a lazy smile on her face, Adina felt the effect of the drugs taking over, making her numb. She felt the drugs run through her system and cloud her senses, making her chest lighter and pushing away the soreness she felt between her legs.

Her room was big for nothing and felt empty and closed in on her. Ever since her mother died, life had been hell for her. Her grandmother who she knew loathed her took her in. She had only met her grandmother once and that was when she was five after her father died. Her grandmother had tried to coax her mother to marry someone she had always had in mind for her, but her mother was adamant and refused.

Adina's mother had managed to take care of the both of them. Adina never knew what exactly her mother did but something in her gut told her it was probably illegal. She hardly ever had time for Adina but the little free time she had, she used it to spend time with her.

Her mother got sick later on and Adina had gone to her grandmother who was filthy rich, falling on her knees with tears blinding her, begging furiously to help with the medical bills. But she refused.

Adina took odd jobs in order to pay for the hospital bills and at the same time, juggled school work, somehow still getting straight As. During that period, she had found out that her mother owed a lot of people debt. She tried to pay them, but some got impatient and beat her up, while some sexually assaulted her.

Her grandmother took her in since their home was taken away from them, but that came with a price. Three times every week, her grandmother brought in clients, grown rich men who were old enough to be her father and she had to sleep with them. Her grandmother paid her enough to pay for her mother's bills.

Adina was slowly losing her grasp from life at the age of fourteen and it was at that age she had tried drugs. She loved the way they made her feel, numb to the pain and forgetting about her problems for a moment. She only took them when needed so she could keep up the perfect facade she had in school which was the safest place for her.

Her mother's situation had gotten worse and needed to be transferred to a hospital. Adina had agreed and signed some documents, her mind racing with the thoughts of how she could make more money. The transfer happened when she was having a test in school and the ambulance got into an accident, killing her mother.

At that same moment, she found out that Brad had been sleeping with her best friend after they started dating and she spiraled out of control, trying to deal with the pain of losing her mother and being betrayed by two people who she thought cared for her. It was at that very moment she dove fully into drugs.

Adina slowly opened her eyes, feeling sober and sore all over. The night sky was starless, only a half moon graced the sky. She tore off her clothes, wincing at the pain she felt on her legs.

The client her grandmother had brought today had been extremely rough with her and she regretted being sober at that moment. She searched through her bags, desperately trying to find pills but nothing. She searched for cigarettes and only got out an empty packet.

Adina groaned, and noticed a piece of paper on the floor. She picked it up. It was the paper Hoshi had given her when she returned to school and a small smile lit on her face. He was very stubborn and didn't know when to mind his business, but she felt a sense of calm in knowing that there was at least one person in this world who gave a shit about her.

She was scared that associating with him would taint him. He was one of the brightest kids in school and she never understood why he even liked her. It had been pretty noticeable since he did a shity job of handling it.

He was right about one thing, she needed to talk to someone. Her chest felt like it might burst at any moment with the way the darkness was eating at her soul and sucking her into a void.

She searched for the phone, noticing it was dead and plugged it in. It turned on and she punched in his number, dialing it without a second thought.

The phone rang for a couple of seconds before he picked up, his voice sounding thick with sleep.

"Hello?"

Adina sucked in her breath. "It's me, Adina."
