𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐀'𝐒 wheezing body with her cane and flipped her over. Her skin colour had turned a sick white looking colour and her eyes were unfocused.

Catherine noticed the spilled pills scattered all around her granddaughter and clicked her tongue in annoyance. She watched Adina breathing become shallow and smacked the cane across her face.

"You really are so annoying," she grumbled. "You could have chosen somewhere else to overdose on your drugs, but no, you chose my house."

Adina's body began to jolt violently, her body flailing in different directions and her grandmother stood over her, watching till her body became still once again.

She put a finger over her clammy skin, feeling her pulse. She straightened and got out her phone, forcing tears to her eyes as she dialled 911.

"Mr. Gogatsu," Hoshi looked up, seeing his teacher's hard eyes on him. "Can you please try to pay attention."

Hoshi nodded his head, tucking his phone back into his pocket. The teacher turned and continued her lecture.

Hoshi began to write most of the major points the teacher was pointing out in his note but his mind kept falling back on Adina and how it had been six days since they last spoke to each other. In those six days, he had texted and called her, but nothing.

Hoshi was worried her grandmother must have done something to her and he regretted not asking for her home address the last time they spoke.

Class was finally over and he packed up his books and scurried out of the class before the teacher could and got out his phone, dialling her number.

"Come on, come on," he muttered under his breath as it went to voicemail and he dialled it again. Hoshi was sure something was wrong, he wasn't sure what, but he had a dreadful feeling in the pit of his stomach.

"Hey, Hoshi," Brad suddenly appeared in front of him, blocking his way and Hoshi stared down at him, eyes narrowing. "What? I actually got your name right this time."

"What do you want Brad?" Hoshi asked. "I'm kind of busy."

"Have you heard from Adina lately?" He asked, leaning against the wall.

"Why do you want to know that?" Hoshi asked.

"You know, I did cheat on her," Brad said. "I know what I did was wrong, but she also cheated on me, with grown ass men."

Hoshi's body became rigid, remembering Adina telling about her grandmother forcing her to sleep with men. Hoshi couldn't possibly tell someone like Brad about that, but he was curious about one thing.

"How do you know that?"

The brave, unbothered look Brad normally wore fell and there was conflict raging in his eyes, sadness crossing his face.

"My father had a sex tape of the both of them on his phone," he swallowed. "I'm not trying to justify my cheating on her with Corey, I know what I did was fucked up, and I just used that video as a way to finally break up with Adina."

"But that didn't give you the right to spread something like that around school," Hoshi glared. "What if words spread out that your father has been sleeping with a minor? Don't you care about your father's reputation?"

"That's the thing, Hoshi, I don't care," Brad smiled. "My father had been a cheating dick for as long as I could remember which drove my mom away. The first sex tape I saw on his phone, was of him and Adina's mother."

Hoshi suddenly remembered the comment he saw on her Instagram page and balled his hands into fists, bile rising to his throat on how sick this world was. He wanted to badly wipe away the notion that Adina willingly slept with grown men from Brad and everyone else in this school.

"My dad owns a hospital," Brad continued and Hoshi lifted up an eyebrow, wondering why he was telling him this. "I was there six days ago, and an ambulance was brought in. It was Adina."

Hoshi felt his blood run cold and his heart slam hard against his chest.

"Why was she brought to the hospital?" He gasped.

"She overdosed on drugs," Brad whispered. "But she died before they could get her to the ER."

Hoshi felt the wind get knocked out of him and Brad's words sank deep into his skin and burrowed into his mind.

Dead? Adina was dead? Brad was saying something else but Hoshi was too stunned to even speak or hear. He pushed against him and walked away, his feets dragging him out of school, down the road, to the park and the passage beside the moss covered boulder, the whole world locked out.

He sank to his knees, his chest getting tighter with each second. Regret settled into him. Regret that he didn't approach her the first time he saw her across the hall, regret that he never tried talking to her, regret that he didn't do more for her, regret that he was too shy to become her friend, regret that he didn't escort her home, regret that he couldn't do anything for her.

He didn't know how long he sat there, regretting everything. He could still smell the faint cigarette smoke and chocolate on her, still hear her voice. But she was gone and there was nothing he could do.

He suddenly remembered her words, when he told her he wanted to be a gynaecologist, how excited she sounded about it. He breathed in and exhaled.

He stood up, making a promise to himself to get into an ivy League school and make it as a gynaecologist. To make her proud. He also hoped that her grandmother and every single person who hurt her, would get their own bitter taste of medicine.

1. brad is still a selfish dick and he could have told hoshi about adina's death before, but he chose six days after.

2. i feel like this story is very unrealistic, but then again, i never planned on making it realistic in the first place.

3. catherine has been added to the bunch of people i want to feed to sharks.

4. if you got to the end without cringing at the bad writing and grammatical errors, not to mention the nonsense plot and story line, thank you so much for reading use me like a drug.
