CHAPTER 1: Silence Means Danger
"We need more stuff to talk about to the public!" I hear Zarina say, our head of the PaperCrumble newspaper and publishing house. She had been ranting and screaming about bringing the PaperCrumble back to its feet since the great journalist and CEO, Griffin David-who is Zarina's dad- died 3 years ago!
I paused eating my lunch and rolled my eyes. Next time, I swear I won't forget to bring earplugs. I couldn't even eat in peace.
I'm pretty sure, either many decided to leave PaperCrumble because it wasn't worth it anymore, or they had it with Miss Zarina and her crazy attitude.
The good thing is that I'm not one of the people being screamed at right now. Sometimes, having a really bad back office located near the bathroom has its perks. But since its walls aren't THAT thick I can pretty much hear anything loud from here.
"You're fired!" I heard Miss Zarina exclaim loudly.
"Gladly!" I hear a man say. Oh, no...
I started to sweat, the man who answered was no other than Ashton Telsi. He's one of them, "stars" in the PaperCrumble and the whole Crethymon being someone who writes about crime. A topic so well-known here.
I guess many just like good-looking men work hard to write about their passion while risking their lives.
I hear many shuffling feet and hushed voices.
Rumors will definitely spread.
I won't be surprised if many would follow Ashton after. Mostly, the girls.
I once heard that the only reason some of them are even here in PaperCrumble is because of Ashton and because they want to shoot their shots.
As my mind drifted, I didn't notice the fast-approaching steps coming toward my office door.
My door suddenly opened and I almost threw my spoon at the person who barged in.
"Mr. Zelkry," I hear the voice say. It's Miss Zarina!
"Yes, ma'am?" I asked-more like screamed- as I quickly stood up straightened my back and tried to fully sound composed, knowing I wasn't.
"From now on, you'll become the MAIN new crime and investigative journalist of PaperCrumble." She announced placing a folder on my small desk. "Here's the form, it has all the instructions in it."
I looked at the folder on my desk and back at Miss Zarina. I wanted to object.
Yes, I write some mystery one-shots and write some short sentences in the newspaper, but I don't think I'll be able to become one of the new Main! "Miss, I'm so honored to hear that but-"
"Well, it's finished then, Good luck!" Miss Zarina said as she cut me off.
She then headed towards the door but then stopped and turned to look at my mess of an office.
"Hm, you need a new office." I hear her mutter.
"Well then Mister Zelkry, starting tomorrow, you'll be transferring to a new office."
I was shocked, I've worked in PaperCrumble for about 2 years now, and finally... I get an actual office?! Maybe, this whole promotion wouldn't be so bad after all.
"Now, that you're promoted. You must now start writing about a new article." Miss Zarina said and I froze.
Of course, I need to make articles now that I'm one of the new MAIN. The only to be exact since Ashton was the last other main journalist.
