JEN POV
That day just messed up my entire life. It all started with Dylan rushing in and pulling me out of my room, without any explanation. We ended up at a metal door, and he pushed it open. Lynn was crouched in the corner, Aeden with his hand around her shoulder. "What's up Jen? Coping well with the battle?" Then, he went out. I shook my head, horrified. Battle? He never told me about any battle.
When the gunshots spread across the compound, I realised. "Well, Erudite invaded us. And not only us. They have forces in other factions as well. We'll wait for Thomas and Aeden to return, and we go out and kick their ass. All right?" I nodded my head. The door was kicked open by Aeden, and they entered the room. I jumped up and put my arms around Thomas's neck.
"All right, all right. No time for your lovey-dovey klunk, there's a battle going on! Here I stole a few guns." Aeden threw us each a gun, and marched out. "And now let's kick some Erudite butt." He winked, and charged into the crowd, shooting anyone in blue. We followed and I ended up using my knife instead.
The battle didn't really last long. The leader of the Erudite "army" Eric, was shot by Four, and with the help of Uriah and Tris, we got the others captured. But we lost a few people. And...one of them, two of them, was my best friends. They confirmed that Dylan was killed, and they couldn't find Thomas.
"Try. Try more. Please." I begged the search party, but they just shook their heads. "He's probably dead as well. We're closing the case." I fell to my knees. Punching the ground in frustration, anger, sadness. I just let it all out on the floor. It shucking hurt, and red lines were streaming down my knuckles, but it couldn't be worse than the emotional pain.
Even after 3 days, there was no news from the team. I felt myself slipping, slipping back into the darkness. Without him, I was nothing. He was everything. The reason I was holding on. And he was gone.
Life became meaningless. I saw no reason to live, no reason to carry on. But as I lifted both feet from the edge of the Cliff, I found one person who cared. A warm hand wrapped itself around mine, and held it tight as I dangled over the Cliff. It pulled me up, and we lay there staring at the sky.
"What's outside the walls? Is there another Maze?" I turned to look at my life saver. Uriah. "Nah. No one knows. But we guard them anyways. Never know when and who will attack." He smiled. "And...Jen. Why? A beautiful girl like you..." I placed my finger to his lips.
"You saved me, and I'm grateful. Thank you for saving a nobody."
He broke into a grin and whispered. "Anything for you." Then he walked off and left me to process the previous events.
Maybe I could live without Thomas after all. Dylan was gone, Lynn had gone back to Amity. All I had was Aeden, but I could never find him for some reason. I slowly got back to hanging out with Arianne. It was all going good. And then Aeden entered my head. Jen. Jen you hear me? I sensed urgency in his tone.
Yea. What's wrong? And where have you been?
Well, I set up a secret rescue party for Thomas, we have been looking for him ever since.
Oh my god. Thank you so much Aeden! So...any news?
I thought you wouldn't want to know this, but since you asked, you have every right to know. He...was kidnapped. Locked up at the edge of the Dauntless quarters, near the walls. Now let's free him.
