Chapter Thirteen
⚡️UNKNOWN EARTH
THE DISTANCE EXPLOSION OF LIGHTNING DANCED ACROSS THE SKY. Radiant glows of orange and yellow decorated the darkness, the rumbling of the natural elements merging with the boom voice of the godlike being.
Elizabeth was unphased by the loud sounds exploding around her, instead remaining focused on the game of chess sat right in front of her. Small candles added a burning glow to the radiants skies, a colour that contrasted against the shining sky. The glow radiating from the small flame lit up the side of Elizabeth's face, revealing her ghostly white skin that had a faint, jagged, pink line upon her cheek. It connected with her upper lip and stretched out beneath her eye. It stopped before her hairline.
"Just give up, you're in an impossible situation." Her taunting opponent never stopped, leaning forward with her elbows pressed against the stone tabletop, chin cupped by her pale hands. "I can see your eyes darting back and fourth trying to find a solution. Not even your speed can save you now."
Elizabeth's jaw clenched, teeth grinding in frustration. Her hand hovered over the board, fingers drifting to grab different pieces before it fell to the side. "Shit!" she yelled, slamming both fists onto the stone table top. Her opponent stayed unphased as the play pieces fell over and the table shifted beneath them.
"Maybe one day, you'll win."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes, watching the woman stand and hold her hand out over the table top. It moved in a circle around the edge, glimmering sparks of magic dripping from her fingertips. With a faint smell muttered, the table was cleared, leaving on the lit candles.
"No, I want to play again," the speedster suddenly said with haste. Her words stumbled from her lips at an unnecessary speed. "Bring the board back."
The opponent, laughed, her head shaking slowly. "I'm afraid not, I have other business to attend to."
Like a child being possessed by boredom, Elizabeth sank in her seat, groaning. "Nova..." she dragged out, turning her body to the left and bouncing up. Her opponent had already walked off through the dimly lit temple, laughing softly.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes and dashed through the dimly lit halls, leaving the gloomy and apocalyptic-like skies behind. The moment she entered the middle room, steel doors slammed shut behind her, and echoing thud appearing as the gates were sealed. She now stood in a circular room, one held up by four pillars positioned like they were the corners of a square. Different designs were printed over the sand coloured material, drawings detailing long forgotten stories of the magic this universe had.
There were eight different doors, all lined up beside one another and decorating large portions of the walls. They had different paintings on the doorways, explaining what was hidden behind them. The one Elizabeth just exited was decorated by gloomy clouds and natural element based materials, saying the hall led to a world where elemental beings were imprisoned. There were creatures that could control water, manipulate the earth, command flames and change the natural paths of wind. Elizabeth liked it in there because the wild weather reminded her of the Speedforce, pretending the loud thunder and lightning was the mystic energy watching over her like a guardian angel.
"I can only linger for so long, I have other responsibilities rather then just being your babysitter," the teenager's opponent, Nova, said.
