Chapter Fifteen

"WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY'LL SAY?" Elizabeth's voice was soft as she talked to Gideon, keeping her tone down to avoid people eavesdropping. She needed a moment to talk to the AI alone, to talk openly about the multiverse and time travel, both concepts she was extremely familiar with. But protecting the multiverse was apart of her job, time travel however... The Speedforce was extremely against that.

"I believe that they should see it as... you fixing a problem," Gideon suggested, translucent expression staring up as Elizabeth focused on her reflection. She stood in the ensuite bathroom of the guest room she had claimed, the specially designed Quantum suit wrapped securely around her body with the helmet retracted.

Elizabeth sighed softly, bowing her head as she leant against the marble sink. "They always say that time travel is never the option," she reminded the AI. "That if we were to screw it up, it could end up being more catastrophic that what we started off with."

"What's worse then this?"

"The Speedforce taking matters into their own hands," Elizabeth said, chuckling sarcastically under her breath. "Do you think those ghosts will show up?"

"There is a high chance they will," Gideon admitted. "If they do, they'll only be after you though. So, you don't have to worry about the well-being of the other Avengers."

Elizabeth released a breath, her body posture slouching with her shoulder falling. "Guess that's a good thing." Quickly splashing her face, Elizabeth tried to wipe away her nerves and fears, hoping to keep and emotionless gaze that didn't reveal anything she didn't want to reveal.

"Everything will work out, Elizabeth," Gideon tried assuring.

"Doesn't help the guilt... Especially knowing someone has to die to get the Soul Stone." She felt her heart leap after voicing her fears, even though she knew she'd say it. Saying it was harder to digest then just thinking it. "Dad died to get that Stone and we failed to use it successfully to save the universe. What if that happens again?"

"The heroes of this earth are far more knowledgeable of the Infinity Stones then what your home had been," Gideon said, not missing a beat. "They know what they're doing. I've analysed the logistics of the plan and analysed the possibility of success. It's quite high. For now, you just have to focus on getting the Time Stone from 2012, and keeping the ghosts away."

Elizabeth sighed again, looking up at her reflection. "Those bastard ghosts will be a pain. I hate them."

"I think every speedster does."

Soon, Elizabeth joined the other Avengers in the plane hanger, trying to keep her face expressionless to hide the guilt and anxiety creeping through her veins. She was lucky that none of the heroes knew her well enough to see when she was lying through her teeth and keeping drastic secret that could change the outcome dramatically.

From beside Bruce and Melissa, she looked across the group to the three that were assigned the Soul Stone. Elizabeth didn't know Clint, Natasha or Laurel, but the thought of one of them dying in the coming hours made her stomach churn and voice get caught in her throat.

"Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends... We lost family... We lost a part of ourselves." Steve's speech was listened to closely by all the heroes, each appreciating the pep-talk that was extremely needed.
