Newt knew he had to talk someone about Marly. Much as he liked her, his instincts screamed at him to find out what she was really doing with WICKED. And though he wasn't really sure why, he was kind of pissed off with Minho. Which left Thomas the best candidate for a little heart to heart.
He found him eating dinner that night. Brenda was with some of her girl friends so he was alone; it was the perfect chance to explain. He sat down and took a bite of potato.
"Talk."
Said Thomas, who could tell something was up with Newt.
"Okay, well, is it just me who has a bad feeling about this whole Marly and WICKED thing?"
He asked Thomas, who to Newt's suprise, was trying to supress a smile.
"That's not really how you feel about her,"
Smiled Thomas knowingly, and Newt felt himself go red. Again.
Oh well, he thought. He could be honest with Thomas.
"Okay, I like her. We kissed - and there was a spark! But she's a creator... I thought maybe she wasn't, because, your tattoo said, well you know and you're still bloody here! So I thought it might be okay. But, I dunno, man. If she was a creator..."
Newt trailed off, looking out to the empty clear blue sea.
"Please, Thommy, please...(had to!) tell me what to do."
Thomas smiled again, but sadly, thinking of Teresa.
"Well I agree we need to find out more about her, Newt. But if there's a spark, then really, that's all you need."
"A spark..."
"Yeah. If you like each other, it'll work out in the end."
"Bloody hope you're right!"
Newt thought of when Thomas had first arrived in the maze, when they'd talked and how Newt had explained the glade to Thomas. Now, their roles were reversed.
They finished the rest of their meals in silence, Newt eager to grill Marly again.
