Newt and Minho packed their bags in silence. It wasn't awkward; they could tell each other anything. As he shoved a spare t-shirt in his rucksack, Minho broke the silence.
"You think Thomas'll be alright? If we aren't here?"
Newt had thought of this himself, so he knew the answer immediately.
"Yeah. I reckon he'll be fine. He can handle this, he's stronger than he makes. I think it's just that..."
Newt trailed off, a look of horror on his face.
Marley was standing there, her hair scraped back, bags under her eyes like she hadn't slept in weeks. Yet he felt no sympathy for her - she had done all this.
She must of, she... she had to have. What else could it be?
Newt knew he had to let it go. It wasn't his fault, he hadn't been weak, she'd tricked the others too.
But that kiss, that was something she hadn't done with the others. It was special, and butterflies erupted in his stomach every time he thought of it, and her, and a feeling so strong he wanted to vomit accompanied them.
Her eyes bore into his, and for a while he forgot what she'd done, that she was the enemy. It was just wishful thinking, because he wanted her, so, so much.
No he didn't - he hated her!
As if fog had clouded his mind, Newt watched paralysed as Minho gave her a death stare.
"What the hell are you doing here? Don't you think - hey, who let you out? Hey! Get back here!"
She'd run off, a look of smug glee on her face. But for Minho, Keeper of the Runners, she was no match. As if she'd relit the flame inside of him, he ran after her at the speed of light. All Newt could do was watch, and finish packing his small pack. Then he waited for Minho.
After 20 or so minutes he was back;alone.
Although he hated her, he really did feel something for her at the same time. He couldn't help himself.
"Where is she?"
He murmured as soon as Minho had recovered - he was a little out of practice.
"Hell knows! Shucking ran off into that damn forest. She's mental, I swear! I think she might even be dangerous, she's mad..."
Newt thought he might be about to hear what he'd been waiting for for weeks, now.
"Does that mean -"
"Yes. Damn it, we're going into that bloody forest. We're shucking going - now."
With a small nod to Gally and the others outside, Newt hurriedly followed Minho as he led the way into the thick forestry.
