"You did what?!"

I nodded my head after explaining to Mimi what had happened today. "Yes. I asked Heeseung if he wanted to meet up for coffee next week, and he said yes." I placed my head in my hands in embarrassment. "Oh gosh, why did I do that?"

I heard a laugh, and I looked up to see Mimi smiling and covering her mouth. "What's so funny?"

Mimi continued to laugh and shook her head. "You realized what you just did? You ask Heeseung on a date."

I widened my eyes. "No, I did not! It's just two people meeting up who haven't seen each other in a while!"

"But they dated in college and even did the evil deed."

Mimi laughed, and I crossed my arms, scowling. "It's not a date, I swear."

"Alright then, guess I'll believe you."

I stood up from my chair and grabbed my purse. "Mingi! Minji! Let's get ready to go!" I heard the twins run downstairs, and I made my way to the door, with Mimi following behind.

The twins were waiting at the door when we got there. Mimi smiled and opened the door. "Think about what I said, Sim Y/n," she said with a wink.

Mom was cooking dinner, and Mingi was napping, so I decided to research.

Since Mom had first done the session at four o'clock, she and Mimi had been talking about a guy named Lee Heeseung nonstop. That name sounded familiar to me like I had read it somewhere.

I snuck downstairs and took Mom's laptop, running back to my room. I opened it and logged in. Then in the search bar, I typed in Lee Heeseung.

The results popped up, and there was a news article:

4 Arrested in College Drug-Rape Scandal

"Drug-rape?" I read out loud. I clicked on the link and read the article.

—————
"Mingi! Wake up!"

I felt someone shaking me, and I opened my eyes to see Minji holding Mom's laptop. "What are you doing with Mom's laptop?" I asked, still half asleep.

"Don't worry about that; look at this!"

She turned the laptop to face me. I gave her a baffled look. "Where am I looking? All I see is four mugshots."

"No dummy, read the article."

I sat up to get a closer look. "Two college students, their father, and the college dean were all arrested last night for involvement in drugging and raping women at Ji San University—okay Minji, what am I reading?"

She pointed at the laptop. "Just look at the names."

I groaned and looked where her finger was at. "college dean Yang Jungwon, father Park Jisung, and sons Park Jongseong and Lee Heeseung. Again, what about this?"

Minji sat on my bed. "I had been listening to Mom and Aunt Mimi's conversations, and they were talking about a guy named Lee Heeseung. I knew that name sounded familiar, so I searched it up and found this."

"Okay, but how does this relate to Mom? They could be just talking about a random person."

"But this random person is Mom's ex from college and her first boyfriend."

I tilted my head and gave her a suspicious look. "How do you know about this stuff?"

Minji smiled and pointed to her ear. "It's because I listen."

People would think that I pay attention to everything because I'm quiet, but that person was Minji. She talked the most out of the whole family. "You just don't know how to mind your own business," I complained.

Minji rolled her eyes. "Anyways, Heeseung's son Riki is the kid in the four o'clock counseling session with Mom."

"Have you heard anything else?"

She nodded. "Heeseung and Mom are going out for coffee next week, but Mom claims it isn't a date."

"And she's probably right."

"Think about it, Mingi: who would go drink coffee with their ex-boyfriend? That's like going out with your enemy; you can't do that!"

"This is why we mind our own business." I grabbed the laptop and shut it down. Then I closed it and got up from bed. "Don't worry about it. Let's go eat dinner now and pretend that we didn't have this conversation."

"I'm going to keep talking about this, Mingi, whether you like it or not!" Minji declared, following behind me.

—————
We all sat at the table, quietly eating our dinner. After a few minutes, I cleared my throat.

"So Mom," I started, "about your—"

I couldn't finish my sentence because Mingi kicked me under the table. I gave him a look, and he scowled at me, shaking his head. "About what, Minji?" Mom asked, "finish your sentence."

"She was just going to ask how you met Aunt Mimi," said Mingi. "Oh, I already told you two. Aunt Mimi and I were roommates in college."

"Did you happen to make any other friends in college, or perhaps get a boyfriend?" I asked. "Minji!" my brother hissed.

"Um, I didn't have a boyfriend. The only person I was close to was Aunt Mimi," Mom explained, averting her gaze from us.

One thing about her is that she makes it obvious when she's lying: specifically not making eye contact.

"Are you sure about that? Are you—"

"Minji, that's enough," Mingi interrupted. "If Mom said she didn't have a boyfriend, she did not have a boyfriend. Stop trying to get in other people's business."

—————
I hate lying to my kids, but I don't want them to know about my past yet. I refuse to talk about my college life.

The twins were quiet for the rest of dinner. Then Mingi mumbled something about finishing homework, and Minji did the same.

After I cleaned the table and washed the dishes, I walked to my room to see my laptop sitting on the bed. "That's weird; I swore I kept it in the living room," I said to myself.

I placed the laptop back in its original place and got ready for bed.
