On the next day, you walked into the office. As you were making your tea, you heard Bina talking on the phone.
"I'm sorry, sir, but you can't come in today. Y/n has a full schedule," she said. But by the look on her face, the caller didn't take that well.
"No, sir, I can't clear her schedule today. You will have to come in the next time she's available."
You walked to the desk, leaning your ear towards the phone. Bina saw you and pressed the speaker button on the phone.
"That won't work for me, ma'am. I want to see Y/n today." the caller argued. You thought you were crazy, but you recognized that voice. It was a man's.
"If you want to come in today, sir, I can schedule you with Dong Yongbae. He has no one—"
"No. When I say I want Y/n, I want Y/n."
You couldn't take anymore. "Excuse me, sir," you snapped. "You can't be talking to our employees like they're your friends. We have a job to do, so we don't need any interruptions."
"Oh, hello, Y/n," he said. "It's lovely to hear your voice again." "Do I know you?" you asked. "Of course. You don't recognize my voice?"
You sighed. "I do," I admitted. "But I don't remember who you are."
"Y/n, this is your wonderful and caring ex-boyfriend."
Your breathing stopped, eyes doubling in size. No, that can't be right.
"J-Jongseong?"
"The one and only. And why are you calling me by my while first name? What happened to 'Jay?'"
You haven't heard that voice in over ten years. You pushed it to the back of your head, hoping to forget about it. You don't want to associate with Jongseong for the rest of your life. He hurt you, Heeseung, and Mimi.
You will never forgive him.
You took a deep breath. "Okay, Jay," you turned the phone's speaker off and placed it against your ear. "Why do you want to see me?"
Jongseong chuckled. "Can't an ex-boyfriend see his ex-girlfriend? I'm out of prison; that means I can see you! Are you available today?"
You sighed. You were available in the afternoon, but you didn't want to see Jongseong. But at the same time, you wanted to know why Jongseong wants to see you after all this time.
"I'm done after one o'clock today. You can come then," you said. "Great!" Jongseong cheered. "Thank you so much, Y/n. I knew you could! Talk to you later!" Then he hung up.
You gave the phone back to Bina as she gave you a worried look. "Will you be fine?" she asked. You gave her a light smile and nodded. "Of course, I will,"
You were nervously tapping your foot, anxiously waiting for Jongseong to arrive.
You were about to call Heeseung at first and tell him about it, but you pushed that aside. He'll find out sooner or later.
You were starting to fidget with your hands when there was a sudden knock on the door. You looked up immediately and froze. It's Jongseong.
You stood up and walked to the door. You opened it and there revealed Jongseong. Age was getting to the best of him, but you could still recognize him from college. He also looked skinnier.
"Hello, Jongseong," you said. The man waved. "Long time no see, Y/n. You still look beautiful as you were in college,"
"Let's just get this over with."
You didn't have time to deal with his flirting.
You two walked to the chairs and sat down. There was no reason to have your clipboard with you. "Now Jongseong—"
"Please call me 'Jay,'" Jongseong interrupted. "It's less of a mouthful for you."
"Okay, Jay. Why did you decide to visit me after all these years?" you leaned towards him. "Did you think that I wanted to see you after what you did to my friends?"
Jay sighed. "I understand why you don't want to see me, Y/n, but I came for a good reason."
"And what is that?"
"I want to apologize,"
You froze in your seat. I want to apologize.
You didn't believe those words one bit. You crossed your arms and leaned back in your chair. "Apologize to who? There's a lot of people."
"Last time I checked, there were only three," Jay replied. "Mimi, Heeseung, and you."
There was a short silence. "Look, Y/n, I can tell you don't believe me, but I am a different person now. I don't give people drugs anymore, and I'm out of prison. I even got a job: writing books. I'm about to publish my first book soon."
You listened as Jay explained his changes. Half of you were starting to believe him, but you weren't all the way convinced yet.
"Jay, you're the main reason I have trust issues to this day," you said bluntly. "What you did to me and treated me in the past seriously hurts. Especially what you did to Heeseung and Mimi; Heeseung doesn't even acknowledge you as his brother anymore!"
"And I deserved that," Jay said. "I'm so sorry for causing you pain, Y/n. That has been bothering me since I was sitting in that cell more than ten years ago! I understand if you don't forgive me, but I am serious when I say I'm sorry."
Tears were coming from Jay's eyes. It hurt you emotionally a bit.
Finally, you sighed and grabbed the box of tissues, handing them to Jay. He looked up at you and grabbed the box. He mumbled a thank you.
After Jay wiped his face, he asked, "So can you forgive me?"
"I can't make any promises, Jay. It's going to take me a while to forgive you," you explained. "But you will need to apologize to Heeseung and Mimi tomorrow. We'll all meet at Flower Coffee in the morning at ten."
"Thank you so much, Y/n!" he said, smiling. "I knew you would!"
You smiled, nodding your head.
It will be a nerve-racking day tomorrow.
