war of words

It was nearly evening. My classes just got over.Divya and I were in different lab groups, so I was waiting for her in an empty classroom. I was lost in my thoughts when I heard a loud sound of the door. Rohit entered with his friends. I was sitting on the table and they all surrounded me. I was running out of words. I was not in the mood to speak to any of them. I got a bit uncomfortable by their presence.

"I have noticed your bonding with that M. tech guy. Stay away from him. You are only mine." He said angrily

"Yes, stay away from him." One of his friends shouted.

Rohit tightly held his collar and pulled him closure.

"You are not supposed to talk to her in that way. Just be in your limits. " He angrily replied to his friend who shouted at me.

"I am sorry." His friend apologized to me.

I literally rolled my eyes.
"I don't understand this boy. What kind of empty-headed guy he is!" I murmured.

"Excuse me, you don't own me so you better stay away from me. It's been four years. Why don't you leave me alone?"

His friends started laughing in a sarcastic way. They knew that my words were not gonna affect Rohit.

To be honest, I always showed my courageous side to the world but deep in my heart I was always scared. He was way stronger than me but I never gave up. Most of the times, I totally ignored him because he was a bully. I think most of the times, i really managed the situation nicely and got rid of me. It didn't affect me that much.

"Are you saying something to her?" Another voice interrupted.

This wasn't an ordinary voice. It was very reliving to hear a familiar sound at that moment.

It was Karan.

He was standing behind him and made his way to me. He told me to settle down and sat next to me.

"Stay away from her because she is mine." Rohit said again while grabbing Karan's collar.

Karan's face turned red in rage as he got really angry by this behaviour of Rohit.

Karan stood up and pushed him very hardly. He nearly fell on the floor.
I got very scared because I knew something dangerous was going to happen. I didn't want a fight.

Meanwhile the professor and other batchmates came. They tried to stop the fight which occured between them but everything was in vain. I wasn't aware that Karan was as strong as Rohit. The situation was getting intense. The war of words turned into a physical fight. They verbally abused each other. The fight gathered a lot of eyeballs. In few minutes, this news the principal came running to the class.

"Both of us, come to my office right now."

"Thank god! Someone stopped this fight." I murmured.

"Wait for me. I will be right back." He said while leaving for the principal's office.

"Karan, Don't forget that you got admission here on your merits. Do you want me to suspend you right now?"

"And Rohit, you don't own this college. Be in your limits. We can suspend you right now. You career will be destroyed. One more fight and I will throw both of you out from this college." The principal shouted at both of them.

I was waiting for Karan in the classroom.

"I know he started the fight by holding your collar but you could have avoided that." I said as I saw him.

"My first plan was to stand by you without any violence but when he grabbed shirt, I got a chance to teach him a lesson. I really wanted to do this. That's what friends do, right?"

Rohit's behaviour was absolutely normal to me. I was habituated to that but for the first time someone, other than me took stand for me.
I really got so emotional.

"This needs to be stopped. This guy is literally harrassing you. How could I manage all these things? I can't see someone hurting you.

Meanwhile Divya returned to us.

"What took you so long?" I asked

"I am sorry, I was just completing my assignment."

"You don't know what happened between Karan and Rohit."

"Calm down. Let her breathe. Let's go somewhere."

We were stepping out of the main college gate. Rohit was waiting with his friends.
Rohit was casually bent towards his expensive bike, which he proudly shows off.

Karan intentionally held my hand to show Rohit and his friends that I was not alone. I was also embarrassed by the whole thing, so I played along.

Divya was very happily walking by my side.

Rohit friends stepped ahead to stop us, but I saw that Rohit pointed at them to not do anything and let us go.
His friends followed his command and we walked away.

We boarded the metro to explore a cafe which was quite far away from our college. The metro was very crowded as it was evening and most people were returning from work. Divya managed to get a seat but Karan and I were still struggling to find a place to stand properly.

"That girl is really pretty. Now don't be jealous again." Karan teased and burst out laughing.

"Oh please! I am not jealous so please stop it." I refused to accept my actual feelings.

"You are clearly lying. Just look at your face, it turned red out of embarassment." He teased again.

He made the situation more embarassing but i was also blushing. There was something special about him. His presence made me happier, just like our happy days in Munnar. It was almost two weeks of our college life and I was a happier person.
I never used to attend college regularly but his presence highly influenced my attendence.

We were talking and giggling, unaffected by the whole world. Karan was trying to protect me from all the plunges in the crowded metro. He wasn't aware that I was noticing it.

"What are your plans for the weekend?" Karan asked me.

"I have no plans."

"Can we go out please? There are plenty of places that I want to go but i don't have a company. Please come with me." He  requested

I agreed and we decided to explore all the places in Kolkata.

All of us spent some happy times in the cafe, laughing and revealing secrets about each other. Divya's presence made the situation much better and we almost forgot the incidents which occured earlier.
