Orange Leader is Citrine

----------------------

The darkness.

It touched him, it infected him.

Everyone ran when it came, but it caught some of them, including him.

At first, he was afraid of what the darkness would do to him: Make him a mindless being? Someone who would attack and harm fellow Steves? Soon he found the darkness was nothing more than something to reach what he desired the most. Gave him the power to control Steves of the same color to care out his and the darkness' will.

And what did Citrine desire the most?

Sabre

------------------------

Sabre and Rainbow were helping Orange Steves get away from the Infected. The human stayed behind to fight off any Infected Steves while Rainbow guided the rest away, Sabre didn't want to risk his friend's safety. Suddenly, the Infected became more interested in the brunet than the escaping Steves and soon Sabre was overpowered.

"Let me go!" Sabre shouted as he struggled to get away from the beings.

Unfortunately, being a human meant he's physically weaker than many species so his struggles meant nothing to those holding him. Two Orange Steves held him as they and the others walk back to the ruined Orange Steve Village. The village Sabre wanted to protect so much and failed to do so. Upon entering the village, they walk to a partially ruined building, the building belonging to the Orange Leader. Sabre prays that Citrine got away.

Like many things before, his prays went unanswered.

Forced to kneel in front of an acacia throne chair was Citrine, but this wasn't the Citrine that Sabre first met, wasn't the older brother for Orange, wasn't the leader the Orange Steves needed, no, this Citrine was infected like the rest. His skin was darker along with his clothes as darkness branches off around him.

"C-Citrine?!" Sabre shouted.

"Hello Sabre" Citrine grinned, it wasn't friendly, it didn't reach his eyes, "I've been waiting for you, don't you know it's rude to make others wait"

"Citrine, you have to listen to me, the darkness is controlling you and everyone here. You have to wake up!"

Wordless, the Orange Leader waved his hand and the room was cleared, leaving him and Sabre alone.

"Sabre, innocent, naïve, little Sabre" Citrine said as he walk to Sabre who was now standing, "The darkness isn't a bad thing, no, it's something we needed all this time."

"W-What?"

"It gives us power, control over those weaker than us. Whatever we desire the most in the world," Sabre's breath hitch when Citrine cupped his cheek, his thumb rubbing it in a lovingly way, "it gives us the ability to take it from anything or anyone preventing us from doing so"

"C-Citrine, please, this isn't you" Sabre whimpered.

The human tried to back away, but the Steve grabbed his wrist and pulled him closer, "It is me Sabre, I'm just taking what I desire the most as a reward from the darkness. As long as I follow it, I can keep my reward"

"Please, you can have whatever you without the darkness: you don't need it, it needs you." Sabre tried to reason, "Whatever it is, you can have Citrine, you don't need-"

"You're wrong!" Citrine shouted, making Sabre jump a bit, "I need the darkness! It's the only way I can ever have what I want!"

"Do you know what I want? Do you know what I desire the most Sabre?" Citrine asked, in a creepy, calm voice.

Not trusting his voice, Sabre shook his head. Without any warning, Citrine turned them around then shoved Sabre into the throne chair and caged the brunet by putting his hands on the arm rests. Sabre looks up at Citrine, the once sandstone color eyes are now becoming darker due to the infection. Sabre's eyes widened when he felt a hand on his thigh and couldn't help but to squirm at the touch. Whimpering when the pressure increases because of Citrine leaning in and whispering in his ear,

"You are what I desire the most Sabre, I've wanted you for a long time. Now thanks to the darkness, my dreams will become reality."

"Wh-What? Citrine, don't you hear yourself?!" Sabre screamed, making Citrine the one to jump a bit, "Even with the darkness, you can't force me to be with you! It doesn't affect me and I only see you as a friend, brother even, but as a lover?! I would be betraying Orange! Your brother! And my boyfriend! I already told you no before and you said- ahh~"

Sabre couldn't help but to groan when the Steve tighten his grip.

"I don't care that you are dating that excuse of a brother of mine, I will make you love me!" Citrine declared, "I'm better than him in every way! I'll prove it to you, and you'll love me for it!"

Then Citrine said something that made Sabre freeze,

"Besides, isn't your precious boyfriend dead? He was half of the Orange Crystal that was used to create the so-called 'hero' who doesn't remember any type of relationship and just knows beings"

"Y-You know nothing!" Sabre screamed, but that was the hurtful truth.

"Oh, I think I do, more than you do it seems" Citrine chuckled, "Maybe some rest will do you good? Have all the problems of today go away just for a few hours could help clear your head and make rational decisions."

"I'm not doing anything anytime soon" Sabre glared behind his bandanna, "But you're going to let me go right now"

"Or what? After all, you're just a human." The Steve reminded, "I could do a number of things to you and you wouldn't be able to do anything but to accept everything I give"

That's when Sabre smirk, "I may be physically weak, but I'm mentally stronger than all of you and smarter than most of you"

Before the Orange Leader had time to question this sudden change of mood, Sabre tilted his head back then headbutted the Steve hard making him stumble back. This gave Sabre the time he needed to escape his infected friend. Once outside, the human discovery another thing about the darkness: it alerts nearby infected. Surrounded the entrance of the Orange Leader's home were all of the infected Orange Steves, preventing Sabre from truly escaping.

"Sabre!"

The brunet turned to see a furious Citrine. Shadows covered the walls, engulfing everything in darkness until it reached Sabre. The shadows soften reaching the human, not wanting to harm him, but to trap him. Sabre wasn't able to dwell on it as Citrine pulled him into a tight hug. There were whispers all around, but Sabre wasn't able to understand them, all he felt was weightlessness then a voice came through his head,

"Sleep for now, little angel of light"

Unable to deny it, Sabre fell asleep in Citrine's arms, unknowing of what the darkness or the Steve has in stored.
