"Go, go, go!" Colonel Jack O'Neill yelled as he turned around to provide his team, SG1, some much needed cover in order to secure the Stargate.
So much for the routine mission on P3X-854, to document and study the Ancient ruins there. Initial findings of the MALP showed the Stargate itself in an open field with the greenest grass, surrounded by ruins and no signs of any hostile forces in the surrounding area.
Upon further investigation there was a path headed through the woods which eventually lead to a little village a couple of clicks away.
After Dr Daniel Jackson had documented his findings on the ruins they headed out to the village only to find it was overrun by the Goa'uld. Unfortunately they were spotted. They had zero chance if they stood their ground and so Colonel O'Neill ordered his team to retreat to the gate, with at least twenty-five Jaffa loyal to the Goa'uld System Lord Ba'al, hot on their heels."Sir, we have no time to dial the gate! We have to fall back!" Major Samantha Carter, his second in command, yelled back over the immense force and sound their P90 defense weapons were making in order to hold off the enemy.
"Then we'll make the time, Carter! Daniel, dial home! Tell 'm we're coming in hot! Carter and Teal'c, covering fire!" he orders while keeping suppressing fire. "We are not staying here one minute longer than we have to." he said to himself as he shoots one of the many Jaffa down.
Each take cover behind bits of Ancient ruins in the open field trying to hold off the Jaffa blasting their staff weapons at SG-1. One by one the team take them down making it easier for Daniel to safely reach the DHD and dial Stargate Command, but they just kept on coming.
Finally that oh so familiar sound of the Stargate whooshing. O'Neill can hear the panic in Daniel's voice as he apprised the SGC of their situation over the radio.
With the alarms of the unscheduled off-world activation blaring at the SGC, General George Hammond quickly made his way down from his office to Stargate Operations, or control room, where Sergeant Walter Harriman is situated overlooking the Gate Room.
"Walter, what is going on?"
"It's SG-1, sir." The Chief Sergeant who is responsible for most of the outgoing activities at Stargate Command, answered the general. "They're under heavy fire by the Goa'uld."
"The Goa'uld?!"
"Daniel was able to dial the gate, we're trying to get clear to come though!" O'Neill informs them over the radio.
"IDC code received, sir."
"Open the iris. Looks like this mission didn't go as planned. Have medical on standby."
As soon as Walter opened the iris, the Gate Room started taking fire by the enemy's staff blasts shooting from P3X-854 through the Stargate.
"Evacuate the Gate Room." Hammond said, ordering the defense team that secure the Gate Room every time there's an unscheduled off world activation to get out of weapons fire before lowering the blast shield. "Colonel O'Neill, we are taking fire. Report." General Hammond asked while he kept an eye on the Gate Room through the monitors. On the other side of the wormhole O'Neill signalled his team he was moving position and made his way over closer to Daniel to make sure he had the cover to run through the Stargate. After Daniel made it through, he ordered Teal'c and Carter to run for it.
Carter made it closer to the gate but got pinned down close to O'Neill's position. Teal'c however stood by the gate waiting, covering O'Neill and Carter when a couple of blasts hit dangerously close. "Go!" O'Neill ordered. Reluctantly Teal'c stepped through the gate.
"Sir!" Carter, who was closer to the gate, yelled to get O'Neill's attention. "2 o'clock!"
As the staff blasts fly over his head, O'Neill cautiously moved his gaze to where Carter told him to and sees three Jaffa at the tree lines setting up something closely resembling a cannon. The other Jaffa who got close to their position started retreating fast. Alarm bells went off in his head and he looked back over to Carter, "Carter, we have to go. Now!"
He had no clue as to what the weapon was or what it would do, but he did know it was bad news. He ran over to Carter and grabbed her by the vest pulling her towards the gate. He heard a loud energy blast and could actually feel the electricity on his skin right before they attempted to jump through the gate.
Back at the SGC, Hammond was still monitoring the situation in the Gate Room through the monitors as Daniel and Teal'c, who had made it back safely, had now joined him and Walter in the control room.
"Where are Colonel O'Neill and Major Carter?" Hammond asked them.
"They were right behind us." Daniel answered him with the panic still visible on his face as he looked from the general to Teal'c and then back to Hammond.
Teal'c nodded, "The Goa'uld were closing in, but I believe they would've made it through the gate by now."
The firing had now seized and so General Hammond ordered the blast shields back up and the defense team back into Gate Room before radioing in again. "Colonel O'Neill? Colonel O'Neill, report!"
"Sir?" Walter asked him not sure what to do.
"Give them some more time." Hammond said with all the hope in the world his team would make it back in one piece.
Suddenly a bright flash came through the Stargate and it immediately shut down. Once their eye sights were back to normal they came to realisation that Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter did not make it through the gate.
Walter shifted in his seat to look at General Hammond who in turn looked at Teal'c and Daniel before they all turned to stare at the now empty Gate Room trying to understand what just happened.
