Together Someday

Chapter 4

Tanner pulls into the parking lot of Outback Steakhouse. His demeanor completely changed on the way here he seemed different. They get out of the car and walk inside and wait for the hostess to sit them at a table. The hostess sits them at a table behind the bar in a semi busy part of the restaurant. Tanner and Anna take their seats and wait for their server.

A waitress walks up, "Hi, my name is Bailey and I'll be your server today," her voice seemed to change as she looked between Tanner and Anna, "Here are your menus. What can I get you to drink tonight?"

"I'll take a water with lemon," said Anna

Tanner took a gulp, "I'll take a Pepsi, please." Anna raised an eyebrow at him

"Absolutely, I'll get those asap," Bailey said sounding slightly annoyed now, and walked away

Anna spoke up "I wonder what that was about?"

"I wouldn't worry about it babe," Tanner said taking his attention to his phone. While waiting for their drinks Anna looked at the menu to see what she'd want. A few minutes go by and Bailey comes back with their drinks.

"Here are those drinks. Have you decided what you'd like to eat?" Bailey asked and glared at Tanner, Anna pretended not to notice.

"I'll take a 6oz sirloin with steak fries, and steamed broccoli on the side," Tanner said not making eye contact with neither Bailey nor Anna.

"I'd like a 6oz sirloin as well with a salad on the side please," Anna said with a smile to hide her anxiety.

"Perfect, I'll get this out to you as soon as possible," Bailey said in a more relaxed tone smiling at Anna.

While waiting for their food, Anna tried to make small talk with Tanner but he just kept blowing her off and was on his phone instead so she just sat there trying not to be upset. Anna stood up and walked to the bathroom too take a deep breath and calm down she felt her anxiety getting the best of her. Why was Tanner acting strange? Why was our waitress giving him those looks? Anna was having trouble shaking the those thoughts away. After a few minutes she felt ok enough to go back to the table. She arrived just as Bailey walked up with their order.

Anna sat down as Bailey set her food down "Thank you! This look great" she said smiling. Bailey set Tanner's food down and they avoided making eye contact with each other.

Anna tried to make nothing of it as she ate but she couldn't take it anymore, "Ok Tanner, why has our waitress been looking at you like that? Why have you not really talked to me all night? Why have you been acting so weird" she questioned him not very quietly.

Bailey overheard the commotion and went to see what was going on "Is everything ok here?"

Anna feeling pissed off now "No Bailey, everything is not ok. Why do you keep giving MY boyfriend those looks?" Tanner couldn't seem to speak so he just sat there.

"Your boyfriend?" Bailey questioned, "No he's my boyfriend and has been for five months now"

Anna felt her heart break at those words "Fi-Five months?" Anna stuttered "Bu-but we've been together for eight months" she cried wiping away tears.

Not even looking at Tanner she took off the promise ring he had gotten her and threw it at him before running out of the restaurant. He didn't even try to stop her, but it wouldn't have mattered now, she was too heartbroken to listen. She didn't live far from the restaurant so she walked home, she just wanted to be alone. She walked inside her house and shut the door before falling on the couch crying. Buck came and laid with her and she just cried into his fur.

Anna sent Tanner a text, "It's over between us, I never want to see or hear from you again!!"

She then texted Daniel, "Things with Tanner and I are over, we broke up..."

After texting Daniel she decided to take a nice hot shower. After her shower she just laid in bed lost on what to do. She couldn't stop crying and eventually cried herself to sleep.
