Walking into the kitchen she grabbed out 2 wine coolers, wanting to start off easy before breaking out the vodka and whiskey. She popped the caps off and put them on the counter. She walked back into the front room, handing Daniel his drink. Daniel smiled a bright smile at her. Anna started to feel butterflies in her tummy. "That's new," She thought to herself. She sat on the couch next to Buck.
They decided to play on the Nintendo Switch. They started to play some Mario Kart. They both can get pretty competitive.
"I'm gonna kick your ass," Daniel claimed playfully.
Anna chuckled, "Not if I kick yours first."
"We'll see about that," Daniel smirked at her.
Anna felt those feelings again, so she picked up her drink and took a chug. They've known each other since highschool. She knew those feelings were wrong. She'd seen too many friendships ruined from them going further than just friends. But Anna couldn't shake how she was feeling. "I shouldn't feel like this. I just got out of a relationship. Plus that's my best friend," Anna thought to herself.
"I need to take Buck out," Anna said after beating Daniel in this round of Mario Kart. Her and Buck went to the backyard. She was also using this as an excuse to get some fresh air and calm her feelings. She's never felt nervous around Daniel so why was today any different. She stood outside for 10 minutes lost in her mind.
"Hey you ok?" Daniel asked, walking up behind Anna, startling her.
"Yeah I'm fine, just doing some thinking," Anna said, shaking her head.
Daniel raised an eyebrow, "Thinking about what?" He inquired.
"Uh, nothing in particular. Just how I have the world's greatest best friend," She said, giving a nervous chuckle.
"As do I," Daniel responded with a smile, "Let's get back inside it's getting chilly out here." Daniel walked inside Buck and Anna followed close behind.
Anna went into the kitchen to open them up another drink. She walked into the front room this time sitting next to Daniel. They switched to playing Super Smash Bros, which was Daniel's favorite game. Anna wasn't very good at it but she always had fun playing it anyway.
Daniel got up to use the bathroom. He came back with the Jameson and 2 shot glasses.
"Let's get this party really started," He said, pouring them both a shot. After handing Anna her glass they both threw back their shots.
"Do you mind if I turn on some music?" Anna asked him.
"Please do," Daniel responded.
"What would you like to listen to?" She asked him while opening Spotify.
He thought for a minute, "How about some 2000s country?"
"Sounds perfect," she said, turning on the 2000s Country playlist. The first song to play was 'Bless The Broken Road' by Rascal Flatts. This was one of her favorite songs.
Daniel poured them both another shot, which they again threw back. They went back to playing Super Smash Bros. He kept beating Anna at the game.
After a few more shots of the Jameson and some drinks with the vodka they were both pretty drunk. They'd been making some light hearted jokes with each other. They looked at each other, but this eye contact was different than before. They looked away from each other both hiding the blush on their faces from one another.
They both cleared their throats, "So uh, how about we play Mario Party?" Anna suggested.
"Absolutely yes," Daniel replied.
~Small time skip~
"Hey Anna," Daniel said softly.
Anna with a puzzled face looked at him "Yeah Daniel?"
They made eye contact and Daniel groaned out loud, "Ugh. Fuck it dude," He said before grabbing her. He pulled her in closer and planted a kiss on her lips.
She pulled away confused at first, but then she returned a kiss back to him. Then she pulled back "What was that for?" She questioned.
"Anna I need to be honest with you, I just never had the courage before to do so. But I love you Anna, more than friends. More than best friends. I have real love for you," he said, not breaking eye contact with Anna.
"I-- I love you too Daniel," Anna stuttered out, blushing hard.
