۵ Chapter 8 ۵

"It all comes down to this final toss for the young echidna from Angel Island. He'll need a score of four to take the championship," says Tails to his makeshift microphone made from a pinecone attached to a stick.

It's been a quiet day so far. The weather is nice and there is nothing to really worry about and because of that, we have decided to spend the day outside. I don't exactly know what is going on right now but Sonic and Knuckles are playing some sort of game that they apparently play all the time... even though this is the first time I have ever seen this game and I've been here for quite some time so if they play it 'all the time' I should've seen it by now, but I guess that I'm seeing it now so that probably counts. Now, that's all completely beside the point. The point is, they're playing a game, the rest of us -excluding Tails who is pretending to be a commentator on the game- are watching.

Knuckles grabs Sonic who is lying on the ground and starts swinging him around getting ready for the throw. Tails walks closer to the two and continues speaking to his microphone, "Can he do it? Can he score a four? The crowd is on their feet!"

"Can you get on with it already?" asks Amy who is tapping her foot on the ground.

"You can do it Knucks!" I cheer the echidna on.

Knuckles lets go of Sonic who flies across the air and slams straight into a palm tree. The hedgehog bounces back and falls on the soft sand below him and quickly turns his gaze up to the tree. Three coconuts fall down from there and land near Sonic.

"Denied! Three coconuts is not quite four," Tails says.

Sticks points up to the tree shouting, "Look!"

Everyone's gazes turn up to the tree where a fourth coconut is wobbling while still clinging onto the tree. As Sonic, Knuckles, Sticks, Tails and I watch in anticipation for the coconut to fall, Amy lets out a big yawn. Then, the miracle happens, and the coconut falls, and it lands right on top of Amy. "Ow!" she yells as she gets hit and falls on the ground.

Sonic and Knuckles laugh as they look at one another and bump chests. As the two are celebrating their victory, Tails announces, "They've done it! They've achieved the impossible! The team of Knuckles and Sonic has bested the team of Sonic and Knuckles!"

Amy who is now rubbing her head turns to the two confused and laughs, "Wait a minute. You were playing against yourselves?"

"No! Weren't you listening? We beat Sonic and Knuckles," Knuckles answers. He then points right at his face, "Ha! In your face, Sonic and Knuckles!"

Then, despite the previously clear sky, a massive shadow takes shape on the ground. Our gazes turn to the sky where we see a massive storm cloud forming and covering the sun. As the cloud continues to form something flies out of it. That something being Eggman on his Eggmobile.

The doctor flies closer to us and maliciously announces, "Behold, rodents! Prepare to face the most fearsome destructive force ever to grace this, or any other world." He motions toward the cloud behind him. Absolutely nothing happens as the cloud juts floats there and Eggman points toward it. "It'll be just a minute. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves," he then adds.

"It's a storm cloud?" I question.

"No, not the cloud," Eggman replies. "The cloud is just for effect." I raise my eyebrows and look over to Sonic who gives me a shrug. Our gazes turn back to Eggman who adds, "Your doom is coming, I assure you!"

"So why does it need a cloud for effect?" I ask.

"It... argh! The cloud is just-" Eggman starts but is cut off as a weird industrial sound can be heard from the distance. "Ahh, here it is now! This. Is. Cowbot!" he announces as from within the cloud appears a large flying robot that is made to look like a cow.
