Three; Overheard

CARLOS had not known what to expect when Jay said Jane was looking for him. Was she going to say it was all just an elaborate prank?

No. None of that. "Oh hi, Carlos." She had said. She removed the necklace he gave her for her birthday, giving back to him. "Here. I just wanted to give it back to you."

"Oh." He had said. "Right."

That was why now, the next day, he was walking around Evie's neighbourhood.

"Carlos?" He heard Ophelia's voice. "What are you doing here?"

"Ophelia?" He asked. "What are you doing here?"

"Yzzy, Zevon and I moved into a house here." She explained. "Mum didn't want to come because she- well- she's old. Didn't wanna move around."

"Oh." A small laugh left Carlos. "Yeah, I get it. I was visiting Evie. She lives 'round here."

"Ah." Ophelia smiled. "Carlos? Can you do me a favour?"

Carlos blinked. "Uh-yeah sure. What's up?"

"Well.." She trailed off. She held out a letter for him to read. "The former king Adam wants to meet with every Vk under eighteen and I'm only seventeen so.."

"Ah, that thing." Carlos mused. "Yeah. It's about the school problems. Do you want me to come with you?"

"Yeah," Ophelia admitted with a sheepish smile. "I would ask Zevon or Yzla but they're busy."

"I'll come with you, don't worry." Carlos assured. "I need a distraction. Besides, you're my childhood friend."

"Thank you." Ophelia hugged him with so much enthusiasm ge almost dropped the letter.

"Of course."

And that was how they both ended up walking down the halls of Beast Castle, towards Adam's office.

"We better wait, I suppose." Ophelia said, hearing some voices inside.

"Yeah, we better." He agreed.

"But your majesty-" A man said.

"Silence!" Beast cut him off. "I still say Vks are dangerous. The only way to insure our safety is by making sure they act like us."

"But that would be changing their real selves, your highness." The un-named man protested.

"Quiet, Lucas." Adam ordered. "We will seperate all the Villain Kids and put them in the school I made for a situation like this. They'll stay there isolated for a decade and when they come back, they'll be Aks instead."

"This is wrong!" Lucas cried.

"I don't care. This is the way to insure our safety!" Beast roared.

Ophelia and Carlos exchanged looks. So that's why he called the Vks to his office. To isolate them.

"We have to tell everyone." Ophelia insisted.

"Let's start with Mal, Evie and Jay." Carlos said and the two ran off.

Ben ran into them on the way. "Guys? What's going on?"

He didn't get the answer as the two rushed off. Carlos drove the two in his car back to Evie's house where the rest of the Core Four were.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Evie asked when they reached.

"One minute." Ophelia panted, catching her breath. "I really hate running,"

"Beast has a school for the Vks. He's gonna isolate them and make them Aks." Carlos informed.

"You're joking?!" Mal said incredulously.

"We're not!"Ophelia assured her.

"I recorded it!" Carlos gave her his phone.

"We have to tell the Vks. The Aks won't believe us." Jay looked worried.

"I'll ask Cali and Zevon to spread the news." Ophelia said with a weak smile.

So much for a Happily Ever After, She thought bitterly. We're just in danger. Who knows how they're gonna change us!
