07 | Adonis

It's been an hour since Adonis was rushed to the ICU, and no doctor would tell me anything. I was already worried and scared; I kept pacing back and forth. Hyunjin had gone off to find a doctor who could tell us anything about Adonis, if he was okay, or how bad of condition is he in.

I exhaled sharply as I tried to sit still on the plastic chair; I rested my head in my hands. I was practically praying for Adonis, "Alexie," Hyunjin's voice made me feel somewhat at ease. I lift my head to see him with a doctor; I get up and walk over to them. "Lexie," Hyunjin said; I looked at him and the doctor. "Ms. Romańo, in your backyard, do you have any poisonous plants or flowers that Adonis could've mistaken for food?" The doctor asked. I furrowed my brows in confusion. "No, I checked and removed the flowers when we first moved in. My roommates even helped me," I said. The doctor looked down at the clipboard and exhaled softly.

I glanced at Hyunjin, "Ms. Romańo, your dog Adonis was found with slug bait in his system; the chemical caused him to fall into a seizure," The doctor said. Tears consumed my eyes, "I don't even own gardening tools. Where the hell would that chemical even come from?" I whispered. "But is Adonis okay?" Hyunjin asked; the doctor's silence killed me; it tore me into pieces. My knees gave out as the world crashed; Hyunjin held onto my waist. "I'm deeply sorry," The doctor said, leaving. Hyunjin helped me, "Lexie, I'm sorry," He whispered. He held me tightly; I cried in agony and pain. "How could this be possible? Hyunjin, I don't own any goddamned gardening supplies." I said.

Hyunjin holds me even tighter, "Adonis probably had consumed it while on his walk," He whispered. I shook my head, "Adonis isn't that dumb; he's been trained at a young age." I said. Hyunjin pulled away and wiped away my tears, "You're right...dogs like Adonis are smart and know well." He said. I grab hold of his sweater, "What am I going to do? Adonis was the only thing I had left in this city," I whispered. I sobbed softly; Hyunjin caressed my cheek softly. "You're not alone in this Lexie," He whispered, "You have me," he whispered.
