"Hmm casual or formal?" I asked my brother (s/n) who was stuffing his mouth full of tortilla "Why would you dress nice just to eat food?" he asked his words barely legible due to his mouth stuffed
"I'm not just eating food, I'll be eating with the Madrigal family. This isn't an everyday event for me" I said trying to tie up my hair.
"I eat lunch with Antonio all the time, how is this any different?" (s/n) asked
"Of course it's different- ah Ah choo! Antonio is the sweetest kid, but not only that this is the whole family and I get to talk to them directly" I said grabbing a tissue to wipe my runny nose
"Come on you forget they are real people, and remember we went to their house already for Antonio's ceremony just yesterday" (s/n) lifted his chin up with a smug grin on his face.
"Well it's not that I think they are "all mighty" or anything like that but you don't realize that they deserve a lot of respect for what they do for the town" I told him pinning a (hair accessory of choice) into my hair
"Whatever you'll be missing out though, mama is making tamales today" he taunted
"C'mon (s/n) that's just cruel" I pouted jokingly.
As I made my way into the kitchen my mom planted my face with a kiss
"Mija, make safe choices okay? And loosen up a little you look pretty" she told me stirring masa in a large bowl
"Ah your right mama I will, by any chance have you seen my allergy pills? I've been sneezing all morning" I told her sniffling as I opened every cabinet for my missing remedy
"Oh no I forgot to get you some in the plaza earlier today, it was busy I promise to get some tomorrow" My mom said handing me a tissue
"Thanks, Hopefully I don't embarrass myself with a loud sneeze or something" I said taking the tissue and blowing my nose.
HOUR TIME SKIP
"Alright mama i'm going to head out now, I promise all my chores are finished!" I called about to head out the door
"Mija wait a minute, take this to them i'm sure they'd like it" my mom handed me a familiar tres leches cake
"Wait mom I made that just as practice I still don't think my recipe is perfected just yet" I told her turning away
"Trust me you put so much love into your baking, that's all that matters to people. Plus it's a good situation to tell them what you're passionate about" My mom said laying the cake tray into my hands.
I still was hesitant about taking the cake but I decided to listen to my moms advice since she usually was the one to have my back
I made my way once again down the same cobblestone road that I took everyday, although this time for a non everyday situation I was heading to the Madrigals home
The familiar path came up once again as the sun set peaked over the Madrigals home and created a particular orange glow to the colorful walls
"Okay breath in, breath out. You can do this, even though you haven't socialized this much ever..How hard can it be?" I said making my way to the doorstep and raising my hand to the door
