Jake’s POV
Dedicated to Conors_Animal for the idea! :D Hope you like it!!
There we are stood, me and Ella, at the pier. The chill of the wind was slapping me in the face; this was certainly not the day to be admiring the atmosphere.
“You sure he’s gonna show?” Ella asked me, in a quiet whisper. I could barely hear her over the howling wind that hurt my ears so much more as they were cold.
“Yeah, he should. As long as you said what we planned on the phone to him…” I look down at the floor. “Look, I’m gonna hide now, don’t go dying on me or anything!” I say as I run behind the rides that are covered up. I can imagine this place being so full of life and fun when the rides are on, playing the cheesy childish music as the ride operator sat on their arse collecting tokens and pressing the stop and go buttons on the ride, watching the children go round and round in circles sitting in a seat like looks like a magical flying pig. Now this place is dead. No-one dares walk the pier at night in this weather, I swear it’s like 70mph winds. It’s dark and dingy; the sea is wild with the waves hitting the pier at such force it shook. The small gaps between the floor boards showed the waves about 50 foot below me, but looking down made me feel a little uneasy. It’s silent minus the waves so the sound of footsteps walking towards us was bought to my attention quickly. I poked my head up from the ride to see Barry walking towards Ella. He didn’t notice me so I duck back down quickly.
“Ella. Glad to see you’ve not stitched me up…” Barry said, his tone made me imagine him smirking as he said it.
“Barry. I just wanna sort this out.” Ella said pleadingly.
“I know. I know.”
“What can I do to stop this?” Ella sounded so genuine, it was amazing! We’d only planned this a few nights ago, we’d never properly practiced what to say, but it was a simple plan… We kill off Barry and make it look like an accident.
“Ella, it’s simple. Bring me Conor. He got with my girlfriend, he made me lose her. Do you know what that feels like?” He sounded upset. It was weird to hear a vulnerable tone in his voice, especially when he’s linked to such violent and vicious crimes.
“Yeah, I kind of do.” Ella said, making herself seem just as vulnerable.
“Well, you’ll know how much it hurts. How much it digs and digs at you. How much you make yourself feel worse as you replay it in your head wondering if you could have done something better.”
“Barry, I know. And I’m sorry. But what did Jack do to deserve that? What did I do?”
“I want him to feel the loss I had to feel! I lost the woman I loved, the woman I had been with for years!” Barry sounded angry, his memories of him and his girlfriend must have been flashing before his eyes.
“You can’t change the past, Barry.” She tried to sound like an agony aunt. “There are plenty more fish in the sea.”
“You know?” He began, there was a pause. I peeked over the top of the ride and gazed over at them talking. “You’re right. There are plenty more fish in the sea!” He smiled at her, though it was evil.
“Anyone can find someone who is willing to stay with them for everything!” She smiled sympathetically. Was she really falling into this as if it were real? She’s meant to be planning how to make this look like an accident!
“So you’re saying everyone has the potential to find someone else, no matter what?” He said, walking towards her slowly.
“Well, yeah I guess so.” She said.
