<<<CASEY>>>

Someone shoved me, and I slammed into the lockers. I winced, and I heard a laugh.

"Aww, look at him, just a little weakling. Go cry to your mommy."

I shrank back, trying to disappear.

Suddenly, a familiar voice came saying, "go fuck yourself."

I looked up just in time to see Miles as he punched the jock in the face, blood spurting out of his nose. The jock stumbled back and held his nose, staring at Miles in shock. Then he flipped miles off and walked away, and Miles flipped him off right back.

Neither of us said anything for a moment, and he just watched me. The silence stretched for a moment, then Miles turned around and started walking away. I ran to catch up to him.

"Thanks for that. I knew you were a good guy."

He scoffed, "It wasn't for you. I just hate stuck up jerks."

I smiled brightly, "well, thanks anyway."

His brown eyes flicked to me, and he responded, "sure. Whatever. Now stop following me around."

English class is one I have with Miles.

We were sitting in class, waiting for the teacher. I had started sitting next to him, despite his complaints about me being 'loud and annoying'.

"Hey Miles, wha-" I started, but was cut off by the teacher standing and clapping his hands together, signaling the class was starting.

Our teacher was a tall man, he had a balding head and a British accent. "Alrighty class, today we are starting a project. You will work with partners, which I will let you choose." he had to raise his voice a little after this, as the kids had started whispering. "Be grateful. I want you to pick a book from my list that I gave you, and do a report on it. Go partner up."

"Guess it's you and me, Miles." I said grinning.

He glared at me, "and what makes you think that?"

My grin grew as I answered, "cause no one else will talk to me! And plus, people avoid you too. We're outcasts together now." As I spoke I threw my arm around his shoulder, and he tensed.

Sounding very reluctant, he shoved my arm away roughly and said, "fine."

We went through the options, and miles just shrugged for every single one. So I just picked one for us.

"So then, how are we gonna do this? Are we gonna go to one of our houses? Or do it in the library or something?" I asked.

"Either way I don't care."

"Dude, you're so indecisive." I said.

He glared and said, "fine, my house then. I made a decision."
