Oh Tragedy
"Are you sure you haven't left anything in the car?" Dad asked for the fiftieth time.
"I'm positive that I have everything I need with me." I smiled at him and gave him a hug. "Now go, before I kick your arse."
"Funny." He glared. "Anyway, be safe and make sure you call us-"
"At least once a week. I know." I interrupted.
I know that he just wants to make sure that I stay safe during camp, but the thing is that I've been coming here since I was ten, so I'm pretty sure that I know about all the things he's telling me.
Before he could say anything else I grabbed my suitcase and started dragging it along with me towards the front gate of the camp. I shouted a quick goodbye, waving as I did so, and saw him get in the car and drive away.
Everything at camp was just as I remembered. The massive trees that surrounded the area, the pale wooden cabins to both my left and right, boys to the left and girls to the right, and the main building right in front of me.
I made my way through the main building, into the common room, which was just a room where we could all hang out.
I had made a little group of friends through these years at camp and we all tend to stick together in our little groups. We've been like this since we all came together on my second year of camp, and we've stayed that way, no one leaving, and no one entering the group.
We all stayed in touch with each other through the rest of the year by skyping and texting, but it really isn't the same as actually having the person right there with you.
We planned to meet each other every year in the common room, first thing when we arrive every summer, and only then, would we find our cabins and settle down in them.
Usually, I would be one of the first people from our group to arrive, but as I walked through the door and looked over at the far corner of the room which was covered in bean bags and pillows, I noticed that this year wouldn't be the case, as everyone else had already arrived and were sitting down and catching up.
"Hey guys!" I said as I walked towards them and hugged them all.
"You're late." Chloe said while pointing at her watch and raising an eyebrow.
"I know... Dad wanted to stop by a petrol station to get something to eat." I laughed and sat next to her.
Our group consisted of 8 people.
Me, Chloe and Jade, who were twins, Niall, Liam, Zayn, Harry and Louis.
Niall, Liam, Zayn, Harry and Louis all started off as campers, just like me, but soon grew to be too old to actually attend the camp, so they soon started volunteering as counselors for the camp, even though they don't actually do any of the work and behave like campers still. No one actually tells them off for it because everyone who works here already knows us all.
"Petrol station food?" Jade said as she pulled her long, curly, black hair into a pony tail. "That's gross."
Jade was one of those people who were all about eating healthily, while her sister on the other hand, was the unhealthiest person in the whole wide world. It was kind of amusing to watch them fight over food all the time.
"What can you do?" I shrugged before resting my feet up on Harry's knee, who didn't even notice as he was too busy blushing over something Louis whispered in his ear.
"Have those two gotten together yet?" I asked Niall, the blond, blue eyed one, who was also watching with an amused expression.
"As far as I know, no... It's funny that they are completely oblivious to the feelings they have for one another." He laughed.
We all settled into quiet chatter for a while, until we decided that we should go find our cabins, so we said our goodbyes, very dramatic for a group of people who will see each other in around an hour or less, and me and the girls walked over to the girls cabins.
There we were greeted by Aunt V, one of the senior staff that work at the camp. Her short, curly, grey hair fell slightly over her grey eyes that looked at all the people through thick lenses.
"Ugh it's you again" She huffed when noticing us.
"Nice to see you too Aunt V!" Chloe laughed and Aunt V's scowl soon turned into a smile.
"Hello girls! Back for another year I see." Aunt V said.
"Yup. Three bed cabin as usual please." Jade nodded and Aunt V's smile soon faded into an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry girls, this year the camp decided that it would be easier not to have three bed cabins." She apologized. "And all that is left are two bed ones."
"What!?" Chloe's face turned from happy to angry. "They can't do that! We always stay in a cabin together!"
"I'm sorry girls, but that's just how it is."
"No. I will not take it. Go get the person who came up with that brilliant idea so I can shove something up their-" I cut off Chloe from speaking, knowing that if she kept going she would most likely be sent home.
"I'll room with someone else." I said, forcing a smile onto my face. "You guys go together."
It's not like I was unhappy about the fact that I'd be rooming with someone else, it was just that during all these years we have always roomed together, so it was kind of like a tradition of ours.
"Are you sure about that Mikey?" Jade asked.
"Yeah I'm sure." I nodded. "It's not like we can't have our first day back sleep over anyway. This time I'll just have to sneak into our room like the boys usually do."
Every year, on the first night of camp, the boys would sneak into our cabin after lights out and we would all stay up all night joking around, telling horror stories and eating a ridiculous ammount of sweets. It was something that we did every year, which wasn't allowed, as boys weren't allowed to stay overnight at a girls cabin, but as Aunt V knew, she made sure she'd be the one doing the night watch on that night, so we wouldn't get caught out.
"About that girls. This year I won't be doing the night watch." Aunt V announced. Well there goes our plan.
"This year is starting off well. First the cabin situattion, now this? What's next?" Chloe mumbled under her breath while glaring at the ground.
"I'm sorry girls. I would advise you to have the sleep over some other day. But if you do it today, then be careful, I won't be able to bail you out if you get caught." Aunt V explained as she gave us the keys to what would be our cabins.
"Thanks Aunt V." I smiled as I looked at my wooden key chain which had the number 18 painted on it in red.
"Our cabin is cabin 2..." Jade informed me as she read the number on my key chain. "I was kinda hopping our cabins would be close to each other... I guess not."
"It's okay." I told them. "I just hope my room mate isn't a bitch or something."
"Don't trade us for her okay?" Chloe laughed.
"Of course not." I smiled as I grabbed my suit case that I had previously left next to me. "Common room at the usual time?"
"Nah, we'll go by your cabin to check your room mate out, then we'll go to the common room." Jade said as she copied my actions.
"OK, see ya then guys." I waved at them and started walking in the opposite direction from them.
