Throngs of people milled about in various stages of life, some businessman wanting to get a drink after work, teenagers who want to have fun, and they were all illuminated by the bright neon lights of the shops, the cacophony of noises and laughter deafening, yet it just drew people in, after all, it seemed like everyone was having fun with no other particular aim other than to fulfil their sudden desire to soak up all the good things life had to offer.
A young girl clad in a red kimono stood in front of an arcade, like one of Medusa's unfortunate victims, a large contrast to the rowdiness in the arcade and she was silent, not even making a peep when some drunk kids shoved past her. Compared to the noise in the arcade of game music and boisterous laughter, she was out of place, but didn't attract much attention as most people simply ignored her and continued on with their business. Although that was only the majority.
As she watched a butterfly fly past, it's beautiful wings seemed to shine in the light, sparkling like an ethereal creature. It landed on a white flower, it's red and yellow wings flapping gently as it took its nectar and was soon joined by another red butterfly with black stripes and they both flew off into the light.
"Oi young lady, whatcha doing here?"
A teenager came swaggering out of the arcade, his friends snickering behind him.
"You waiting for someone?"
She stiffened as he grabbed her by the chin and forced her to look at him.
"Come back with me, I'll show you a good time."
"Izu chan, you shouldn't let people push you around you know, just because ryuu chan is nice doesn't mean everyone will be. If anything makes you uncomfortable, just beat them up!"
Blinking, she grabbed the boy's wrist, who was leaning down with puckered lips, and swung him down. Without leaving him time to breathe from having his back slammed on the concrete path, she twisted his wrist and kicked his head.
She would probably have done more if it weren't for a hand grabbing her wrist and pulling her off. The boy scrambled away, his friends had already ditched him and he scurried after them like mice running from a cat.
"Even if they were in the wrong, you didn't need to beat them up like that."
A red haired man with a strange hairstyle and a black hat stood behind her, letting go of her hand once the boys were out of sight.
A wide berth was made around them as people stopped and stared, murmurs erupting around them.
"What were you doing here?"
"...waiting for someone."
The man seemed aware of the attention they had garnered and pulled her away, and sensing no malice from him, she followed him into a more deserted place behind the arcade and down the street, stopping in front of a bookshop.
She looked at the many notebooks on sale, particularly the one with a crepe on its cover.
"What's your name?"
"Kyouka..."
"My name is Chuuya. Do you mind if I stay with you while you wait?"
She quickly shook her head, and another 15 minutes were spent waiting in front of the store as Chuuya whipped out his phone and sent a quick text to someone called Atsushi, well that was the name Kyouka saw, since Chuuya was not that much taller than her.
"Kyouka!"
Both of them looked up at the source of the voice, and chuuya wondered where he had heard the familiar voice, and his question was answered as the voice's owner came into view.
"Sakunosuke?"
"Chuuya?"
The running man came to a stop, and they looked at each other, bewildered by the other's presence, Kyouka looking back and forth between them in confusion.
—————————————————————————
"I never expected to see you here."
"Oh really, sakunosuke, I thought you knew better, especially since dazai used to avoid this street like a plague, so terrified at the prospect of seeing me."
The two men made light conversation over the table in the ramen shop they had decided to go to, Kyouka quietly listening in as she ate her bowl of ramen.
"But ever since you left, dazai has been visiting the shops here frequently, it's a pain trying to drag him back to finish his work when he's sniffing around the street like a dog."
"Tsk, and he said I was the dog. Don't let him get away with the paper work though."
"Of course not."
There was a peaceful silence as oda ordered a bowl of curry and chuuya replied the many concerned messages from Atsushi and co.
"To be honest I didn't expect her to be a mafia member, much less meet you here of all places."
Oda patted kyouka's head and she smiled happily.
"I suppose you could say it's a situation similar to Akutagawa kun. We were only here to run an errand for Amane sensei and kouyou san."
"Saki? Ane san? Why?"
"They're her mentors."
Blinking, it took Chuuya a few seconds to process that.
"...very concerning."
Kyouka had shifted seats to talk to another young girl with her family and they were now happily sharing some karaage at the counter. Seeing oda's soft smile at Kyouka, Chuuya knew he was remembering the kids he had lost during the mimic incident.
"Anyway, chuuya,"
"No, I'm not telling you."
"I haven't finished my question."
"You ask me the same question every time we meet."
Oda broke into a smile as he lay his chopsticks down, putting his hand out for a hand wrestle.
Chuuya snorted, lips curving up as he took the hand in the standard wrestling form.
"Feeling confident, sakunosuke?"
"I've been training."
However, even all the training in the world will never be enough to beat the king of gravity, and the very second they started, oda's hand learned intimacy with the table.
"...this is getting quite depressing."
"Try harder next time."
"Please don't laugh at me, I am mourning my self confidence."
"Sure sure."
