Dazai was not the epitome of Olympic runner, his stamina levels were lower than a middle schooler, and his running form was in chuuya's kind words, utter shit. However, even a starved man could run when motivation drives him, and he ignored the feeling of leaden limbs and screaming lungs, continued sprinting to the location that Akui had written on the paper.
"5 minutes past the awakening of the earth, and his dead body you shall receive."
Thus, the reason he was now engaging in a torturous lesson of physical education. Chuuya better treat him like a baby after this, dazai thought as he skidded to a stop in front of the building.
It was one of the skyscrapers that had been erected after the demise of the sheep, it wasn't particularly tall, but it had an imposing aura, to the roof a few appendages were attached, making it seem like the building had claws that reached up to the sky.
Not that dazai spared any time to admire the scenery or note the small sparkles at the top of each 'claw' like there were gemstones carved onto the tips, for he immediately barged through the door, and was met by the very person he was looking for.
"Hi~"
"Where's Chuuya?"
Growling was uncharacteristic of him, but who cared about images when their partner was in danger? Even with dazai nearly falling over and barely stable on his feet, panting like he just ran a marathon and sweat dripping from his hair, his red eyes shone with enough bloodlust to scare off the other occupants of the building, whom all ran away at the sight of him.
"Straight to the point, I see."
"Akui hanari."
Regaining his composure, or rather dazai tried to pull off that image, standing up straight although his breathing was still arrhythmic.
She didn't comment on it, however, manic grin growing wider as she points upstairs. Dazai slowly reached a hand into his cloak to wrap his fingers around the handle of his gun, preparing himself to whip it out and fire a headshot if she did anything.
"Just because you know where he is, doesn't mean you'll get to him."
"So what, you're going to stop me?"
Narrowing his eyes, dazai slowly took a step forward, and another, and another in an attempt to gauge Akui's reactions, only there were none. She barely responded to dazai's approach, only launching into a seemingly random question.
"Have you heard of abyssal creatures?"
Dazai came to a halt, stunned by the question, he was prepared for any talk about arahabaki, the words of someone who had long fallen into the hands of insanity's demons. Abyssal creatures? Most likely, given the fact that he was dealing with someone who was very clearly, clearer than the clearest crystals and the cleanest streams, non compos mentis, it had at least one string of relation to arahabaki.
Reluctantly, dazai indulged in the whim of small talk, he rather just shoot her and go to Chuuya, but firstly, he is, until now, still in the dark about her ability. Secondly, there may be traps awaiting her demise to bring Chuuya down with her, thus putting Chuuya in danger, and thirdly, curiosity is a fickle goddess that plays to the tune of insanity. In some act of hysteria's play, dazai found himself with a mild urge to find out more about what the killer scientist was going on about.
Loosening his grip on the gun, dazai silently pressed a button on the communication device he kept with him. Curiosity's pull was akin to a black hole, her dance too captivating for a mere mortal to resist, therefore, dazai had prepared for such an event, and informed his squad beforehand that should he press that button, they should send some scouts to the building and find Chuuya while he distracted Akui. Distraction was a double edged sword, the distractor may be the distracted, the distracted may be the distractor.
The demon prodigy versus the manic devil, one would wonder, truly, who would win in the end?
