Chapter 26

Atsushi had failed to realise that, he wasn't allowed to enter the place without a mask, and he didn't have one. Well, he did enter the place by using his ability to climb up the walls and jump onto the chandelier from outside, but after he got down, it was mere minutes before there were guards attempting to escort him outside. All because he had forgotten to take a mask from Kunikida when he borrowed the suit. Said suit was a little big for him, but since Kunikida had thrown it on him and all but made it his since he had outgrown it, Atsushi just took it. Back to the problem at hand, he was trying his best to evade the guards but failing miserably.
"Please give me a chance-"
"Apologies, young man, but the rules have made it so. Please leave the venue."
"M...my friends are over there, I can get a mask from them-"
"Not the first time we heard that excuse, boy. Get out."
"Jared, don't be so rude."
"He's the one being difficult, elliot."
Somehow, this wasn't the first time the two guards started arguing with each other, and Atsushi had taken advantage of it multiple times in the past 5 minutes to escape, to no avail of course, since he was still there, unmasked, and with the guards tailing him.
He was about to make another run for it, well as fast as he could 'run' among the crowds, when someone came to his rescue. Atsushi would have felt relieved, except that it wasn't Chuuya san or Kunikida san.
"There shouldn't be a problem now gentlemen."
A lady in a red gown had apparently seen the commotion and came over to help, and Atsushi slowly took the mask that she held out in her hand.
"...I suppose so, come on Jared, I bet you the newbies are doing shit again."
"If I have to chase them into the garden again, I'll spank them a hundred times."
"That's too lenient, a thousand."
"Gladly."
Atsushi glanced at the retreating guards before thanking the lady, who bowed before taking her leave. While he was a little hesitant about using the mask that a random stranger had gifted him, he didn't want to make even more trouble, not to mention he could also just switch it later. After close inspection, he tried to ignore the attention he was attracting as he sniffed the mask for any scent of poison or drugs, he slipped it onto his face.
Now as for finding Chuuya san or Kunikida san, he didn't bother with yosano sensei or Ranpo san because those two will just get him into even more trouble, he found that it wasn't as hard as he thought it would be, after all, chuuya's red hair was unique, and despite his short stature, chuuya san would definitely scold him for such a thought, he was easy to spot. As well as kunikida's height and blonde ponytail, also easy to spot, after all Kunikida san was a giraffe, he would definitely be yelled at for such a thought, their location was easy to find. The problem was, he was on the opposite side of the hall.
Sighing, he started the long arduous journey through the throngs of people who were actually invited, prepared to accidentally collide with people at least 10 times, all for the sake of Chuuya san and Kunikida san, who were hopefully looking for him and not actually doing whatever they were doing. He couldn't even find a name for whatever they seemed to be doing, rummaging under tables and crawling underneath the table cloths before coming out after that. He was thoroughly discombobulated by their actions, that is, until they emerged once again pulling out a man who he recognised as ranpo san. Still, did they have to be so conspicuous with their actions, the fact that Atsushi could see them from so far away, how was it that there was no one looking at them for whatever chaos they were making while he got so much of it just by sniffing a mask! Life was so unfair!

Ranpo was planning to have stayed there the whole time to watch the inevitable chaos play out, unfortunately, Chuuya didn't let him do so. Not after his dignity, and kunikida's, was sacrificed by sneaking under tables in an effort to find the detective. Despite ranpo's best efforts to wriggle away, once Chuuya grabbed his collar, it was game over, Chuuya dragging him out single handedly without much effort.
"Chuu chuu let me go!"
"Kunikida, have you seen yosano sensei yet?"
"No sign of her, she couldn't have gone far."
"Chuu Chuu, don't ignore me!"
"How much trouble can a drunk yosano sensei get into?"
"More than the entire agency is worth, so we best hurry Chuuya."
"Chuu Chuu! Kunikida!"
"Ranpo san, please quiet down, people are looking at us."
"Edogawa, shut your mouth, lest you wish to live out the rest of your life with the absence of your tongue."
Reluctantly, ranpo closed his mouth, pouting as he was dragged along behind Chuuya by his collar, fully intent on letting Chuuya pull his whole weight, not that it mattered much to Chuuya, who was in no discomfort at all, lugging the 26 year old behind him easily.
Kunikida attempted to maintain his aura of poise and intention, to hopefully get the staring crowd to stop staring and go back to their business.
To no avail of course, unlike what Atsushi thought, they did attract a lot of attention, it's just that Atsushi didn't realise. Of course he didn't, not when he realised Akutagawa on the left side of the hall and focused his eyes on akutagawa's extremely fine figure accentuated by a tight suit. When was the last time Atsushi thought he was heterosexual? Not ever since he realised just how handsome Akutagawa was, that realisation was the best thing in his life, second best thing being the realisation of chasuke.
