The working day panned out as it usually did, paperwork based on past missions, gaining new intel and making sure all not so legal business was in order. Once the end of the morning had been reached, Y/N decided that they would go for a walk to try and blow off the cobwebs from the day before. The sound of cars rushing along the tarmac hit them as they exited the door of the Port Mafia building. The sound so familiar to a city that they didn't take any notice to the sudden increase in decibels. Mindlessly, Y/N let their feet take them wherever they decided to go, allowing them to focus on the scene around them. Nobody could analyse a drainpipe as well as Y/N did that day. Taking note of its start and finish along with every dent it had in it - most likely from reckless teens throwing stones at it. Or maybe Chuuya on a bad day.

The streets were surprisingly empty for a weekday lunchtime but Y/N took no notice and continued on their walk. Until, suddenly, it begun again. The hairs sticking up on the neck. A feeling all to familiar to that of the morning. There had to be someone there. They couldn't just be imagining it. A slight crash emerged from the alleyway beside Y/N. Without thinking of the consequences which may ensue, they walked down it.

"If anyone is there just know that I am armed." They said pointlessly to an empty alley. Well, one which seemed empty. Taking a closer look, Y/N began to notice something unusual. "Is this snow?"

Suddenly, a ginger haired boy who looked no more than eighteen appeared in front of the mafioso. Quickly, Y/N dropped to the ground, placing their hand on the cold pavement beneath their feet. They needed to make an escape without him seeing. This was a member of the Armed Detective Agency which meant he was not far behind.

"The End Of It All" There was no energy rush. No stoppage. They knew what had happened, or should I say who? The slightest contact. That was all it took. The tiniest bit of contact for his ability to work. Y/N ran their hand through their hair, finally reaching another hand which was holding onto a section. Turning their head, they found that it was the one person they were dreading to see - Dazai Osamu.

The gun. They reached for it in their pocket in an attempt to shoot their ex-superior but he had their wrist grasped quicker than they could pull the trigger, forcing it out of their hand. A thud indicated that the weapon had fallen to the floor, inducing a fear into the young assassin.

"Oh, Y/N. I thought you would have known better than to try and attack me by now." That was the last thing they heard before a sharp pain went to the back of their head and they blacked out.

Dazai Osamu. A name that they wished to encounter again. He took the two in, fucked them up and left before they could prove themselves to him. Y/N and Akutagawa. His little failed experiments before his now award winning weretiger. The mafia gave shelter and food, but it also brought monsters like him who would punish for activating your ability a second too slow.

A time Y/N often recalled is when Akutagawa and them were being trained. Too slow. They watched in horror as their yet to be partner was kicked and beaten by the man who was supposed to teach them. Frozen, useless, unable to help. Even if they did, he would just punish them alongside. Akutagawa had to deal with this himself. The young boy's face was emotionless. He had become numb. Blood streamed down his face but he was not phased in the slightest. Something which disturbed Y/N even more.

"So, Y/N." Eyes adjusting to the light, Y/N stared in the face of their old teacher for lack of a better word. Pure rage bubbled inside of them, causing them to try and move which they quickly realised that they were unable to do. Their feet were tied to the legs of the chair that they were sat on and their hands were tied together with rope. A rope which Dazai was holding.

"Sorry," he said, lifting up the rope, "we can't risk you being connected to the ground in any way." Every blood vessel pulsated with anger inside of Y/N. They wanted to rip his head off at the first moment they could.

"Why am I here?" They demanded from Dazai.

"Just needed to test something." Cryptic as ever. Fucking typical. "Also, with the little revelation that Mori decided to make, you are more of a target than ever. So maybe you could consider joining us here at the Armed Detective Agency."

"Like fuck I want to work anywhere near you." They spat at the ground near Dazai's feet, causing a slight smirk from the detective. "Anyway, what is this test you were talking about?"

"To see if he still truly loves you." To say this surprised Y/N would be an understatement, they were completely dumbfounded. Why would he test something like that? And who could he be talking about.

"Who?"

"You're telling me that he still hasn't revealed it. After all of these years." The man let a slight laugh out.

"Stop being so bloody cryptic Dazai and just tell it to me straight." His arrogant face gave them so much anger, it was a shame that his voice had to aggravate it more so.

"If my calculations are correct, he'll be here for you any minute now. All will be revealed to you soon enough." He looked out of the window to see if something might be there. "He's loved you since the day he met you. Always coming to me to take your punishments instead of you being forced to endure them. A truly selfless act for one so selfish."

A familiar crack appeared in Y/N's heart. Someone had gone through that pain just for them. Someone in this world loved them enough to sacrifice their wellbeing.

"I'm sorry, Y/N, for leaving you without an explanation. You've improved far more than I imagined in my absence. Maybe Chuuya was a better option for you after all, as much as I hate the bastard." As much as Y/N would hate to ever admit it, a few tears pricked their eyes, threatening to escape. Compliments were never something they received, especially under Dazai's authority. "Ah, my timings were correct."

A loud crash sounded as glass was flung throughout the room, a little catching H's cheek, causing them to bleed. The man who came through the window was no other than Y/N's partner - Akutagawa Ryunosuke.

"Y/N!" He shouted, running over to them, slicing off the restraints with Rashomon. His ability then wrapped around his partners waist before they jumped back out of the window, Rashomon making sure they didn't fall to their deaths. They came to the roof of a high rise. A spot which Akutagawa liked to go to. He turned to Y/N, scanning them up and down.

"Shit, did I do this?" Akutagawa said, touching the slice along Y/N's cheek which was now bleeding.

"It wasn't your fault, it was the glass. Just happened to fly towards me." He nodded, a strange worry painted across his face which he was clearly trying to conceal.

"I'm going to kill that bastard. If he ever comes near to either of us again, I'll prove my worth by making him beg for me to end his life." Rage encompassed Akutagawa. A greater rage than that he had ever felt. He couldn't describe it, he just knew that nobody would ever get their hands on his partner again. After a while, Akutagawa brought the two of them back to the ground. His partner looked at him awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot.

"Akutagawa..." Y/N thought about what Dazai had said and all words left their head. They needed to tell him. "I need to see someone. I'll see you tomorrow."

As the two parted, Y/N was still on high alert. Looking around nervously for signs of any person who might be lurking in the shadows. Whilst walking, they brought out their phone and searched for the contact they required.

"Hello?"

"Chuuya, we need to talk."

A/N - Hiya! Posting this a day early because no doubt I will be a little preoccupied tomorrow as will most of you (if you celebrate Christmas of course). So I hope you all have an amazing time. Even if you do not celebrate, I hope you have a great day regardless.
