How serious Yibo's father is about kicking his wife out of the company, he clearly showed right on Monday morning. No sooner had he entered the company than he called an emergency board meeting, at which Yibo and his brother also had to be present, when he informed the board of his wife's resignation.

He explained to the board that his wife had decided to resign herself after realizing that she had a drinking problem and was no longer able to work for the company. In this way, he practically presented his wife with the fait accompli and did not even give her the chance to say anything herself.

Yibo could only shake his head at this. It annoyed him that his mother was not even there to defend herself. And because he has to pretend to be on his father's side, at least for now, he couldn't say anything either. It annoyed him even more that his mother didn't even bother to come to the company. It was as if she didn't take what her husband and brother-in-law said seriously.

Next to Yibo sat his brother, who was following the whole thing with clenched fists and a grim look. He, too, decided to pretend for the time being that he agreed with everything his father said and wanted. Even if it was obviously difficult for him.

Just before the board meeting, Yibo and his brother talked for a few minutes and his brother told him that he is now even convinced that his wife and their father are having an affair. He said, "I lay awake all night because I kept thinking of things that I should have noticed before. I think this has been going on with them for a while."

"And what makes you think that?" Yibo wanted to know.

"After she and I had our first date back then, a second date followed in the presence of Mom and Dad. And I remembered how they greeted each other. Even though they didn't actually know each other, the two of them hugged and Dad even gave her a kiss on the cheek. And then there were little things that I noticed. Like how their eyes kept meeting. Then she even knew how old Dad was, even though none of us told her. She even knew what drink he preferred after dinner. She didn't pay attention to Mom at all and only talked to Dad."

"I see. So now you're saying the two of them were dating before you got married?"

"Yes. By now I'm really convinced of it. Maybe I had to marry her so the two of them could continue to be together. I'm sure her parents wouldn't have let her marry a man older than her father. Besides, he can't just divorce Mom like that. Because then he loses half of his fortune. Maybe all this has been planned by the two of them for a long time."

"Getting Mom hooked on alcohol? Kick her out of the company? And gather evidence of the unacceptable marriage so he could divorce her? Because that's the only way he could separate from her without financial loss. At least that's what the prenup says."

"Yeah right."

"Honestly? I have no doubt they'd both be up to it. But without proof, there's nothing we can do about it. And Mom's not much help to us. Even if we tell her what's going on, it won't do any good. Because she is addicted to alcohol. And there were a lot of complaints from business partners and customers because of her. And it's not easy for Dad at home because of her alcoholism."

"So what are we supposed to do now? We can't stand by and watch my wife and our father beat the crap out of our mother."

"Well, we have no choice but to keep our mouths shut and secretly look for evidence. We have to be able to prove that Dad and your wife planned this all along, and to what extent our uncle was involved. And we need to be able to prove that they really are having an affair with each other."

"You know what else worries me?"

"No, what?"

"That mom stays so quiet."
