Chapter 27

A/N: hey everyone, welcome back! Good to be back! I hope y'all're enjoying the story so far. Anyways, Mandalore the Survivor and Gabeherdon308 own the OCs; I'm just the writer.

"Do we run for it?" Callum asked.

"We'll never make it!" Rayla chastised tossing Callum an exasperated glare. "He'll just bite us in half or slam us with his tail!"

"Well aren't you positive," Trezac muttered.

"So, sneaking is out, running is out, fighting is out, what's left?"

"Burning to death?" Rayla suggested.

"Definitely out."

Trezac grimaced, "That leaves negotiation."

Rayla groaned, "That's my least favorite course of action." Grimacing, she stood up and step forwards, out into the open, "Mighty Sol Regem. I am Rayla of the Moonshadow Elves."

The massive dragon slowly lowered his head, his nostrils flaring as he aimed his muzzle in their friend's direction. "What are you doing?" a powerful, deep voice grumbled.

"Uh, I'm bowing great dragon."

"No. I mean, why are you here?"

Rayla pulled out of her bow, gulped as he came face-to-face with the ancient dragon. "We have been travelling in the human kingdoms on the business of Zubeia, the Dragon Queen. We humbly request your permission to cross back into Xadia."

Sol Regem snorted, shaking his head as he stretched his wings for a moment, "What kind of business would take you to the wretched human lands?"

"We are transporting something precious, someone precious," Rayla answered eagerly, "the newborn Dragon Prince, Azymondias!"

The massive dragon growled loudly, "LIES! You dare lie to me?! The egg of the Dragon King was destroyed!" he exclaimed slamming his foreclaw on the ground, causing the ground to shaking under them.

"No wait! I have him here!" Rayla exclaimed. Whirling on her heel, she sprinted back towards their boulder and grabbed Zym, quickly scooping him from Callum's arms before she darted back out and held him up above her head. "The Dragon Prince lives! And he's very cute, isn't he?" Zym whimpered in her arms, and Rayla brought him closer to her chest, wincing as his tiny yet sharp claws dug into her shoulder. But, as Sol Regem's head moved closer, she didn't blame him for being terrified.

Her hair ruffled as the great dragon took a deep sniff, a low rumble vibrating from him as he sniffed again. "How is this possible?" he demanded pulling his head back.

"It's a miracle, he needs to go back to his home," Rayla pleaded. "Please, allow us to pass so we can reunite him with his mother."

"I do not understand how the Dragon Prince came to be in the human lands, however, I will allow you and the dragonling to pass back into Xadia," Sol Regem said, "But not the wretched humans who cower nearby."

Callum sighed loudly as Trezac popped up from his pile of rocks looking incredulous, "Hey!"

"Sol Regem," Rayla started.

"It's ok," Callum spoke up. "You can go on without us."

"No! Callum we're so close!"

"Rayla, getting Zym to Xadia is all that matters," Callum argued. "Just tell the Dragon Queen we helped a little—"

"No," Trezac slapped his hand over Callum's mouth cutting him off. "We're in Xadia, so we've completed that part of the mission. The next step is getting Zym to his mother and ending this karabasting war. To do that, we need to prove that humans and elves can work together. And we'd be will on out way to doing that, if someone," he looked accusingly as Sol Regem, "wasn't in the way!"
